Job description

Job Title: Business Development Specialist

Location:Anywhere Maryland, New Jersey, New York, or the East Coast

Travel: Less than 20%

Working Pattern: Fully Remote

As a Business Development Specialist, you will help drive business growth by identifying new opportunities, building relationships with prospective clients, and promoting Lonza's biologics development and manufacturing capabilities. Working closely with scientific, technical, and commercial teams, you will support customers throughout the early stages of their journey and help create solutions that advance innovative therapies. This role is ideal for someone who combines a scientific background with strong relationship-building and business development skills.

The full-time base annual salary for this position is expected to range between $97,500 -$130,000, plus eligibility for a sales incentive plan.

What you will do:

  • Research and identify new biotech companies, consultants, and potential customers across the US East territory

  • Conduct outreach through phone, email, and networking activities to establish new business relationships

  • Qualify prospects and convert them into sales-ready leads for Business Development Directors

  • Follow up on marketing-generated inquiries and nurture early-stage opportunities

  • Build knowledge of Lonza's biologics development and manufacturing capabilities to effectively communicate our value proposition

  • Collaborate with Market Intelligence, Technical Sales, Commercial Development, and Licensing teams

  • Represent Lonza at industry conferences, trade shows, and customer meetings

  • Utilize lead-generation platforms such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Zymewire, Citeline, and similar tools to identify opportunities

  • Maintain accurate prospect information and activity records

  • Track business development activities and provide pipeline updates and market insights

  • Contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen Lonza's position within the biologics market

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related field

  • 2-4 years of experience in business development, sales, account management, or a related commercial role within biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or a CDMO environment

  • Understanding of drug development, biologics manufacturing, and the life sciences industry

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and generate new business opportunities

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across teams

  • Experience using CRM platforms such as Salesforce and Microsoft Office applications

  • Willingness to travel less than 20%
