The University of Miami/UHealth department of Clinical Engineering has exciting Full-Time opportunities for a Supervisor, Biomedical to work at the UHealth Medical Campus.


The Supervisor, Biomedical Engineering, will participate in and provide supervision of the acquisition, design, teaching, implementation, monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of medical equipment at the University of Miami Health System. The incumbent will provide supervision of day-to-day operations within the service areas, ensuring that work performed meets or exceeds established regulatory agency guidelines. Additionally, the Supervisor, Biomedical Engineering, will ensure the equipment and maintenance database is accurate, up-to-date, and data is entered in a timely manner. The Supervisor, Biomedical Engineering will promote the mission, vision, and values of the University of Miami Health System and proactively support efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services.
Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees departmental operational requirements, which include the development of work schedules and daily task assignments pertaining to equipment repair and support.

  • Provides supervision and training for Biomedical Engineering personnel, including employee motivation, hiring, discharge, discipline, promotion, performance evaluation, and salary adjustments.

  • Performs inspection, testing, and maintenance of medical equipment; evaluates equipment problems and implements appropriate repairs with minimum supervision while maintaining effective customer relations and customer protocols, as needed.

  • Audits work completed by staff and takes corrective actions where necessary.

  • Produces, reviews, and assesses various reports related to work completion, unfinished work, ITM completion rates, and repeat equipment failures.

  • Provides technical training to other employees and customer personnel in equipment operation and checkout, repairs, preventative maintenance, quality assurance practices, procedures, and documentation.

  • Recommends equipment renovation, refurbishment, replacement, or re-deployment based on equipment age, failure rate, cost of service, and overall ability to support the clinical use for which it is intended.

  • Develops, monitors, and controls budgets to assure the most cost-effective and efficient operation.

  • Assists in the evaluation of new equipment as required and makes recommendations pertaining to its electrical and functional conformance to standards.

  • Participates in hazard identification and medical device reporting procedures to help ensure the patient care environment is safe.

  • Leads and/or participates in projects, including deciding on sole source service vendors, system service contracts, best practices, and policy and procedure development.

  • Collaborates with other support entities (e.g., IT or Facilities) to develop support plans for devices or systems that require multi-disciplinary support.

  • Maintains adequate files and parts inventory for assignments.

  • Spends a minimum of 50% of time performing supervisory work and the remaining balance of time on technical-related work.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in relevant field required

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required

  • Training & Development: Providing employee training and motivation to enhance skills.

  • Team Leadership: Ability to create and maintain a cohesive and productive team environment, build positive working relationships and work collaboratively with others.

  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using office software, technology, and relevant computer applications.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.
