This is an advanced study of topics in bioethics taught in conjunction with clinical bioethicists associated with the health care organization partners of the University of Toronto Joint Centre for Bioethics. This course is intended for Bioethics Major and Specialist students. The course explores both the theory and practice of clinical bioethics with the aim of deepening students' insight into the normative ethical features of clinical policy and practice, the interplay of biomedical science, law and policy in creating and shaping ethical issues in clinical care, the use of bioethics theory, principles and concepts to analyze and assess ethical issues in clinical care, and the practical ethical reasoning entailed in identifying, understanding, and responding to ethical issues in the real-world healthcare settings. Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Philosophy, Bioethics or related field. Detailed knowledge of the structure and organization of healthcare, including relevant health law and policy. Familiarity with the practice of clinical bioethics in healthcare settings and current ethical debates in clinical care policy and practice. Experience teaching bioethics in a university setting required.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with the application of bioethics theory to practical matters of health care and/or policy strongly preferred. Previous experience teaching bioethics to undergraduate arts and sciences students preferred.

Description of duties: All normal duties related to teaching of a university credit course, including developing and delivering course content; organizing guest lecturers; developing, administering and grading assignments; maintaining regular communication with students; managing the Quercus course page; and calculating and submitting course grades.
