Description
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track position in the area of diagnostic and therapeutic applications of ultrasound with emphasis on image-guided therapy and drug delivery with an anticipated starting date of July 1, 2024 or thereafter. The position will be within the School of Medicine at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level. Rank will be commensurate with experience, funding history and scholarly accomplishments.
Founded in 1826, Case Western Reserve University is a private research university located in Cleveland, Ohio. The site of the famous Michelson-Morley interferometer experiment, the university is associated with 16 Nobel laureates. The Department of Biomedical Engineering, which is jointly housed in the School of Medicine and in the Case School of Engineering, was one of the pioneering BME programs in the country (founded 1968), and is home to 29 tenure-track faculty, over 200 graduate students and approximately 500 undergraduate students. Its faculty are international research leaders in biomaterials and nanomedicine, imaging, neural engineering, and computational imaging and personalized diagnostics.
Qualifications
We seek outstanding candidates to establish an internationally-recognized, competitively-funded research program in biomedical ultrasound imaging, ultrasound-based therapies and/or photoacoustic imaging. Candidates who have a strong vision for future research within the ultrasound community are encouraged to apply. This faculty member will also have the potential to lead the imaging collaborations in cancer imaging, neuroimaging and/or between the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Radiology, Neuroscience and the CWRU Comprehensive Cancer Center. The research areas of interest include, but are not exclusive to: (1) Imaging and therapeutic applications focused on the brain, such as MRI-guided focused ultrasound, blood brain barrier opening, passive cavitation imaging, therapy for neurodegenerative diseases and brain cancer and neuromodulation: (2) oncologic imaging and therapy applications including multimodality imaging, early detection biomarkers, development of methods for early therapy response prediction, development of agents for image guided drug delivery, gene delivery and/or immunotherapy; (3) development of agents and methods for contrast enhanced ultrasound, magnetic particle imaging, and /or quantitative ultrasound; and (4) ultrasound and/or photoacoustic imaging hardware and software including development of transducer technology, real-time acquisition and reconstruction, ultrasound localization microscopy and super-resolution methods, and artificial intelligence driven imaging methods. Clinical translation is a major goal of our program, so previous experience working in the clinical application areas of oncologic imaging and/or neuroimaging is strongly preferred. The imaging community at Case Western Reserve University is highly collaborative, and thus a demonstrated background in team science is preferred. The candidate is expected to take advantage of the strong corporate imaging research relationships and the world class Case Center for Imaging Research. A doctorate in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related Science/Engineering field is required. The successful candidate is also expected to contribute to the graduate training mission of the department.
