Biomedical Engineer 3D Printing information

What does a biomedical engineer 3D printing do?

A Biomedical Engineer specializing in 3D printing uses advanced additive manufacturing technologies to design and create medical devices, prosthetics, implants, and tissue scaffolds. They work closely with healthcare professionals to develop customized solutions that improve patient outcomes. Their responsibilities often include computer-aided design (CAD), selecting appropriate biomaterials, and ensuring that printed products meet regulatory and safety standards. This field requires a combination of engineering, biology, and material science expertise.

How does a biomedical engineer 3D printing typically collaborate with clinicians and researchers during the product development process?

Biomedical Engineers in 3D Printing often work closely with clinicians and researchers to understand clinical needs, gather anatomical data, and refine prototypes. This collaboration ensures that the custom devices or models meet both medical requirements and regulatory standards. Regular interdisciplinary meetings, feedback sessions, and iterative design reviews are common, fostering a dynamic environment where engineering solutions are aligned with real-world healthcare challenges. Effective communication and teamwork are crucial in translating medical concepts into functional 3D-printed products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a biomedical engineer 3D printing?

To thrive as a Biomedical Engineer specializing in 3D printing, you need a solid background in biomedical engineering principles, CAD modeling, and materials science, typically supported by a relevant engineering degree. Proficiency with 3D printing technologies, such as FDM, SLA, and SLS, as well as familiarity with software like SolidWorks and experience with regulatory standards, is often required. Strong problem-solving, creativity, and effective communication skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies are crucial for designing innovative medical devices, ensuring product safety, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams to advance healthcare solutions.

Location: Pflugerville, Texas

We, EOS - world market leader for industrial 3D printing, are looking for you to support our R&D Metals Team as an R&D Engineer. In this role, you will develop and optimize laser-based processes for metallic materials using modeling, simulation, and experimental testing. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, manage project tasks, and translate solutions into minimum viable products while documenting and presenting results to drive process improvements.
Your Mission
โ€ข Develop process fundamentals and process products for and with our laser systems in the metal sector
โ€ข Apply modeling and simulation tools and develop custom scripts to support process modeling, data analysis, and advanced parameter development.
โ€ข Your responsibilities will include independently planning and reliably conducting process tests to determine parameters and optimize processes and properties of various metallic materials using the latest laser-based technologies.
โ€ข Transfer of solutions and ideas into so-called minimum viable products (MVP) in order to verify customer benefits
โ€ข You will take on the management of project tasks/work packages and work in interdisciplinary development teams, e.g., in close cooperation with process, system, and software development
โ€ข The documentation and presentation of your test results, including interdisciplinary interpretation with a view to potential improvements, will form an essential part of your tasks
Your Talents
โ€ข Completed university degree in materials science, physics, metallurgy, process engineering, mechanical engineering, or a comparable field of study
โ€ข Practical experience with engineering software tools (e.g., CFD, FEA) and programming skills (e.g., Python). Experience with machine learning models and API programming is a plus.
โ€ข R&D mindset with the will to learn, develop and improve work practices and tools
โ€ข Experience and knowledge in the field of digital manufacturing processes or additive
manufacturing technologies
โ€ข Self-organization skills and an analytical and goal-oriented approach to work
โ€ข Strong communication skills and a confident and service-oriented manner, both internally and toward customers
