Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Under general supervision, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, install, test, and calibrate basic clinical, laboratory, and medical research equipment.

This is a full-time, hourly position. Location is onsite at our South Lake Union Campus.ย 

Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, independently troubleshoot, repair, maintain and calibrate all electronic/mechanical/hydraulic patient care, life support, surgical services, and clinical laboratory equipment, apparatus or systems such as but not limited to cardiac monitors, bed side patient monitoring systems, electrosurgical unit (ESU), blood-gas analyzers, multi-chemistry analyzers, surgical lasers, general/basic imaging equipment (portable X-ray machines), surgical robots, and infusion device
  • Perform preventative maintenance by cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, calibrating, verifying performance and electrical safety testing.
  • Document equipment inspections, repairs and failures in database.
  • Confer with faculty, staff, health care providers, laboratory staff, vendors and management to resolve equipment problems.
  • Drive Fred Hutch owned vehicles to service equipment at community sites.
  • Evaluate, make recommendations, and approve devices for use on human subjects.
  • Reviews outcome of preventive maintenance actions and make recommendations for improvements to processes or procedures.
  • Repair malfunctioning patient care life support equipment
  • Evaluate medical equipment involved in unusual incidents and prepare reports and documentation.
  • Provide mentorship to other technicians
  • Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Required:

  • An Associates' Degree in Biomedical Technology -OR- Equivalent education and experience -OR- Certification by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) as a candidate.
  • Three years of relevant experienceย maintaining and repairing biomedical equipment.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of specialized test equipment such as electrical safety analyzers, patient simulators, and device specific test instruments.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Telephone operation and courtesy skills.
  • Customer service skills.

Preferred:

  • An Associates' Degree in Biomedical Technology.ย ย Three years of experience in a hospital or outpatient clinical engineering environment.
  • Three years of experience in a hospital or outpatient clinical engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of software applications including manufacturer's service tools, computerized maintenance management systems, databases, dashboards, spreadsheets, and other metrics-based monitoring systems including asset management systems.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $33.42 to $50.12 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.ย ย Although Fred Hutch is not sponsoring most H-1B visas at this time, candidates who already hold an H-1B sponsored by another organization and are currently in the U.S. may be eligible for this position.Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center offers employees a comprehensive benefits package designed to enhance health, well-being, and financial security.
