Job description

Estimator

Location: Glastonbury, CT or Channelview, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time

Timing: Immediate


Position Overview

In this role, you will prepare & present cost estimates for specific project proposal activities primarily related to combined cycle, simple cycle and industrial facilities. You will function as part of the overall proposal team and develop conceptual & detailed estimates to support proposals for new work. 


Location

This position is based out of Gemma’s Headquarters in Glastonbury, CT or out of Gemma’s Project Support Office in Channelview, TX and involves occasional travel to prospective project sites.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and evaluate RFP documents provided by customer.
  • Prepare detailed & accurate cost estimates for EPC power projects including quantities, man hours, and costs for all project components.
  • Work with in-house engineering & procurement teams to solicit, obtain, and evaluate meaningful vendor & subcontractor pricing for estimate inputs.
  • Develop & foster relationships with key subcontractors.
  • Evaluate bidding risks & strategies, present estimates, and participate in bid reviews with business development department and senior management.
  • Contribute to the proposal effort through drafting of clarifications, review of proposal drafts, and completion of customer pricing forms.
  • Attend and actively participate in proposal & estimate review meetings with senior management.
  • Work with the procurement department to maintain accurate & timely commodity cost databases.
  • Perform various internal analyses & studies to find better solutions and maximize bid accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 4 years of construction experience and 2 years estimating experience preferably with experience in heavy industrial or power plant construction.
  • Experience may include a combination of several of the following: cost estimating, project management, proposal writing, scheduling, and/or procurement with a preference for cost estimating experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field and/or applicable experience.
  • Strong quantitative aptitude & computer skills required including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work productively both independently and when collaborating with others.
