Job Summary
The Student Assistant will support the Department of Biology as a Lab assistant on the Statesboro Campus beginning Fall 2026.
Student employees cannot work more than 1300 hours in a 12-consecutive month period.
Responsibilities
  • Mixes ethanol for specimen preservation.
  • Fixes and preserves biological specimens according to established procedures
  • Processes specimens
  • Organizes jars and tissue samples
  • Prints and applies specimen tags and labels accurately
  • Conducts inventory
  • Maintains accurate records using spreadsheets and databases
  • Performs detailed, precise work requiring strong organizational and record-keeping skills

Shift Specifics
  • Up to 8 hours per week
  • Flexible with schedule of availability

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in six or more undergraduate credit hours or three or more graduate credit hours at Georgia Southern University.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Education
  • Two (2) years of college education

Preferred Experience
  • Previous experience performing three (3) of the above-listed lab duties

Proposed Salary
$12.00 per hour
This is a non-exempt position paid on a biweekly basis.
