Job description

Title: Lab Assistant, Southeast Campus

POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides a broad range of specialized laboratory support and guidance to full-time faculty and adjuncts for laboratory science courses.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs job duties from the assigned campus or work location. Works independently under the direction of science faculty. Sets up supplies, materials and equipment for biology and chemistry laboratories, both for individual stations and for instructor-led demonstrations. Prepares specimens, cultures and slides for biology, anatomy and physiology and microbiology labs. Operates the autoclave and other associated lab equipment.

Assists with and maintains inventory in the science area at the Southeast campus. Assists other campuses with inventory of equipment as needed. Prepares purchase orders and receives shipments for the sciences. Assists instructors during laboratory sessions, when appropriate. Assists in other science areas as necessary. Responsible for supporting additional campuses in Davidson County. Occasional travel to other campuses required. Performs minor repairs of equipment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in a related field

Minimum of three years of professional lab experience is required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Prior experience in a higher education setting

Knowledge of biology or a related area, such as medical laboratory technology, veterinary science, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of biological procedures and techniques, including safety practices and material handling. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, faculty, staff, students and the general public. Ability to work effectively with minimal direct supervision. Strong communication skills. Ability to multi-task and be responsive to time-sensitive requests.

Rate of Pay: $43,653.00 to $52,375.00 annually, depending on experience
