Job description
The candidate should aspire to lead a research program that fuses molecular/cellular bioscience and molecular modeling with quantitative engineering analysis/synthesis approaches, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Areas of high priority include cutting edge, multiscale, data-driven approaches in non-medical molecular biotechnology, AI-enabled digital representations of biological systems, microbiome engineering (with emphasis on designing novel microbial capabilities to enable circular bio-economy, foster sustainable agriculture, and mitigate the impacts of climate change), and food safety, including applications in materials, chemicals, agriculture, sustainability, energy and the indoor / outdoor environment.
Collaboration with AgriLife Extension Faculty, participation in professional development activities and an appropriate level of service to the department, institution, and/or profession is expected.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Food Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to lead a novel research program in the engineering of biological based products, their processes and mitigation of contaminants using experimental and modeling tools.
Successful candidates must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, an ability to work both independently and in multi-disciplinary teams and a willingness to advise and mentor students.
Applicants must be licensed or be eligible to obtain a license as a Professional Engineer at the time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated potential to excel in conducting and publishing high impact research, developing an independent research program, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists and successful grant writing. Motivation and skills to educate students through academic programs in engineering at BAEN including the Agricultural Systems Management (AGSM) curriculum and in other departments.
