General Summary and Purpose:
The Benefits and Compensation Manager is a core member of the Human Resources department. The Benefits and Compensation Manager will be responsible to manage our total rewards program across the company. This position will develop, implement, and administer the benefits programs, policies, and procedures as well as administration of the compensation program. This is a business focused, management facing role and requires strong customer service, business judgement, analytical, organizational and communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the design, development and implementation of benefits and compensation programs.
  • Perform industry research and financial analysis related to benefits and compensation strategy and design.

80% Benefits Management
  • Identify and recommend plan adjustments that are cost effective, consistent with market trends and company objectives and align to attract and retain talent.
  • Act as primary contact for plan vendors and team members for resolution of health plan questions or issues.
  • Support and manage health and welfare plan open enrollment process working with Brokers and the Head of HR.
  • Track benefit issues that come up and involve necessary vendors to ensure satisfactory resolution.
  • Administer company 401k program; including annual audit through 5500 filing.
  • Manage enrollments of new team members and qualifying life events in the benefits system (UKG).
  • Reconcile all monthly benefit invoices.
  • Oversee Canadian Health Benefits.
  • Champion industry best practices to ensure that BioLife Benefit offerings are competitive and industry 'best in class', fair/equitable, and aligns with strategic goals and values of the company.
  • Monitor and conduct reporting as required for all plans, including audits.
  • Monitor benefit programs to ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements.
  • Administer Leave of Absence program and Workers Compensation claims.
  • Prepare team member communication around Leaves of Absence and documentation to support clarity around eligibility, requirements, timelines.

20% Compensation Administration
  • In partnership with HR Team, provide consulting regarding compensation related issues, leveling of positions, pay recommendations to support recruitment, promotions, transfers, pay changes.
  • Conduct ongoing market analysis, identify market research tools that best fit our diverse position requirements and site locations.
  • Lead and manage company wide compensation programs, including annual merit cycle and annual bonus program.
  • Monitors pay practices to ensure compliance with policies, guidelines and wage and hour laws.

Job Specifications:
  • BA degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Health Benefits and 401(k) plan administration.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with Compensation structures and levelling of positions.
  • Demonstrated capability to improve and scale processes, a systems persona who can effectively diagnose the root cause and affect large-scale change.
  • Experience in a multi-state, multi-site environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
  • Experience working with various HR systems (UKG preferred) and MS Office Products.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and in writing.
  • Strong technical acumen.
  • Dynamic personality that will be effective to build relationships and trust at all levels. A 'Can do' attitude with a strong work ethic.
  • Self-directed to complete tasks with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Project management experience a plus.

The US base salary range for this position at full-time is $124,937 - $181,157 per year. Typically, new hires are brought in at or near the midpoint of the range to allow for future growth and advancement within the role. This range represents the full compensation range for this position, with consideration given to experience, skills, and qualifications. Our salary ranges are determined by position, level, location, and market competitive benchmarks. Individual pay within a level is determined by work location (including geographic pay zone region), job related skills, experience, education, and training.
The BioLife Solutions total rewards program includes, but is not limited to medical, dental, vision, 401K with generous match, life and disability insurance as well as time off programs of Vacation and Sick time. Additionally, we believe in our team members sharing the success of our business and therefore we may provide cash bonus or stock equity grants based on company performance as a part of our total rewards package.
