What is a bioinformatics summer internship remote?

A Bioinformatics Summer Internship Remote is a temporary, typically 8-12 week program for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in bioinformatics while working remotely. Interns work on projects involving biological data analysis, programming, and the use of computational tools to solve biological problems. These internships provide valuable opportunities to build technical skills, collaborate with professionals in the field, and explore potential career paths, all from a remote location.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect during a remote bioinformatics summer internship?

During a remote Bioinformatics Summer Internship, you can expect to work on a variety of projects such as analyzing large-scale biological datasets, developing or maintaining bioinformatics tools, and supporting research teams with data visualization and interpretation. Interns typically collaborate closely with experienced bioinformaticians and researchers through virtual meetings and shared code repositories. You may also contribute to the preparation of scientific reports or presentations, gaining exposure to both computational and biological aspects of the field. The remote setting emphasizes self-motivation, clear communication, and effective time management, as you’ll be expected to work independently while staying engaged with your team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a bioinformatics summer intern remote?

To thrive as a Bioinformatics Summer Intern (Remote), you need a solid background in biology and programming, often supported by coursework or a degree in bioinformatics, biology, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with bioinformatics tools (like BLAST, FASTA), programming languages (such as Python or R), and version control systems (e.g., Git) is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help interns collaborate remotely and interpret complex data. These skills and qualifications are essential for successfully contributing to research projects and efficiently navigating the remote work environment.

Job description

Rising Tide Interactive is currently accepting applications for our Summer/Fall 2026 Internship Program. Our interns will have the opportunity to join us in our work with Democratic campaigns, committees, PACs, and nonprofits to develop and implement the digital strategies that win races and create change. Also: our internship comes with training and mentoring opportunities (this isn't a gimmick; we want to help you learn!). As a Client Strategy Intern you will:
  • Attend internal and client meetings and take comprehensive notes
  • Assist in compiling deliverables including reports
  • Track news coverage and competitors' digital spending
  • Complete ongoing and one-off research projects as needed

The important stuff:
  • Paid internship? Yep! We pay $17.95/hour.
  • You can work part-time (at least 20 hours/week) or full-time (up to 35 hours/week)
  • Summer internships typically run from May 18th to December 12th, but we're flexible with start/end dates.
  • Location: This position is based in our office in Washington, DC. This position will work a hybrid schedule, with two days a week in the office and three days remotely. Candidates must reside in a U.S. state in which the company is authorized to conduct business.
  • We will provide a laptop.

Nuts & bolts:
  • Let us know if you're interested in part-time or full-time work (or both) and what your availability is for the semester.
  • Applications will be accepted until the end of the day on Friday, April 24th and must include a cover letter and resume. Final selection decisions will be communicated by Friday, May 8th.

About Rising Tide Interactive:
Rising Tide Interactive works with Democratic campaigns, committees, PACs, and nonprofits to develop and implement the digital strategies that win races and create change. Since 2011, we've worked with clients like Sens. Tim Kaine and Jacky Rosen, Voto Latino, FWD.us, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. We're ready for our best election cycle yet in 2026.
Excited about this role but not sure if you meet all of the qualifications? We encourage you to apply anyway. We're always looking for talented people of all backgrounds to join our team. We prioritize creating a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming environment where everyone is empowered to do their best work. Candidates from all backgrounds, including people of color, women, members of the LGBTQ community, and people with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.
If you require a reasonable accommodation to fully participate in the job application or interview process, please email hr@risingtideinteractive.com with the subject line "Accommodations Request".
