Job description

Description
  • The BITS Lab is seeking a part-time associate research scientist to support a federal research grant housed in the PRIISM research center.
  • The Biofeedback Intervention Technology for Speech (BITS) Lab at NYU Steinhardt aims to leverage technology to enhance speech skill acquisition in both typical and clinical populations. The Center for Practice and Research at the Intersection of Information, Society, and Methodology (PRIISM) is an interdisciplinary center that builds capacity for researchers within academia and beyond to collect data, build inferential models and predictive algorithms, and communicate findings in impactful and socially responsible ways.
  • Position summary: The associate research scientist will support an externally funded study of speech perception and production in the BITS Lab, with a focus on the review of data from measures of sensory function. They will contribute to post-processing and measurement of files resulting from experimental data collection.
    • This position will start September 21, 2026 and will fund up to 5 hours per week.
    • This position will be Hybrid and adheres to NYU's Hybrid/Remote Work Policy.
    • The position will not include any supervisory responsibilities.

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly pay range for this position is $29.00 - $30.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
Qualifications
  • Required:
    • A PhD from an accredited college or university in communication sciences and disorders.
    • Knowledge of speech perception and production, particularly as it relates to speech sound disorders and biofeedback intervention technology.
    • Experience with post-processing and measurement of experimental data files.
    • Expertise in reviewing and working with data from measures of sensory function
    • Understanding the dynamics and requirements of contributing to an externally funded research study.
  • Preferred:
    • Previous experience with BITS Lab protocols for quality-checking data from measures of auditory and somatosensory function.
