ChristianaCare is looking for a full-time Nursing Service Assistant I - to perform a variety of service activities that facilitate the efficient work flow of multiple nursing units and support patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains the environment in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Transport and maintain equipment.
  • Stocks and distributes sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, dietary trays and linen.
  • Harvests placentas and cords for and storage in the freezer.
  • Rinses and stores soiled instruments for return to Central.
  • Organizes work areas.
  • Performs safety and quality checks on equipment.
  • Cleans shelves, monitors, and storage areas.
  • Changes full needle boxes.
  • Empties linen hampers, trash, bio-hazardous waste and disposes of items in assigned areas.
  • Responds to emergencies and pages in a timely manner, running errands as necessary.
  • Assists with lifting, positioning, and transporting of patients.
  • Maintains a helpful, productive attitude while working constructively with other members of the health care tea.
  • Reports any maintenance problems or damages to manager.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Hours: (12 hr shifts) 11a-11:30p EOW & EOH -Education and Experience Requirements:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements

Knowledge of service assistant functions.

Knowledge of unit specific and departmental standards, policies, and selected procedures.

Knowledge of and ability to use appropriate safety measures.

Ability to perform designated tasks according to unit specific standards on multiple units.

Ability to communicate effectively, utilizing verbal communication skills.

Ability to make appropriate notation on selected unit specific forms for multiple units.

Ability to perform required technical skills as outlined in procedures.

Ability to follow universal precautions.

Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.

Ability to work independently within assigned responsibilities.

Ability to exercise judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

Working Conditions:

Frequent exposure to biological and chemical elements with occasional exposure to environmental elements as per unit based Physical Demands Checklist.

Physical Demands:

Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, lift, push, pull, carry, reach, twist, handle, stoop, and climb as per unit based Physical Demands Checklist

This position has a starting rate of $17.32 per hour, regardless of prior experience. After six months of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $20.34 per hour. After one year of continuous employment, the hourly rate will automatically increase to $21.34This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare's good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
