Job description

Job Purpose: Responsible for the specimen collecting; processing; test performance, and reporting test results. This includes the preanalytic, analytic, and post analytic phases of testing. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served; Neonate, Infant, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, Geriatric.
Essential Functions: (Examples of Duties)
  1. Performs testing and patient collecting duties per protocols/procedures

  1. Demonstrates competence in all procedures required by a Medical Technologist

  1. Follows the laboratory's procedure for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results

  1. Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens

  1. Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, and document all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed

  1. Follow the laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance

  1. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Administrative Laboratory Director, Laboratory Supervisor, or LIS Coordinator.

8. Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.

  • Hazardous working conditions in which individual are exposed to definite risk of bodily injury through contact with moving instrumentations, chemicals, and/or body fluids
  • Certain incidental functions may require use of protective gear such as face shields, gloves, and fluid-resistant coats

Physical Demands:
  • Medium work of lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carry object weighting up to 25 pounds
