GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Kirkwood Community College seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Construction Management Instructor. The successful candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of commercial construction practices, building systems, construction methods, jobsite safety, and project coordination.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural, sitework, and code-related aspects of commercial construction.
The ideal candidate will have practical field or management experience leading construction projects and the ability to teach technical and applied coursework in areas such as building systems, construction materials, safety, project planning, and construction operations.
Teaching may occur mornings, afternoons, evenings, online, or at multiple campus, regional center, or partner locations based on program need. Related work includes advising students, curriculum development, assessment of student learning, participation on college committees, collaboration with industry partners, and support of departmental initiatives.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide instruction in lecture, lab, and applied learning environments.
  • Teach technical construction courses including building systems, construction methods, safety, materials, and project operations based on candidate expertise and departmental needs.
  • Develop and maintain curriculum aligned to industry standards.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to maintain course consistency and student success.
  • Communicate regularly with students, faculty, staff, and industry stakeholders.
  • Provide instruction and related student support services across multiple locations and delivery formats as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves occasional (10-33%) sitting and constant (67-100%) standing in a classroom/laboratory setting. Constant (67-100%) reaching, walking, lifting, dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, and viewing various types of visual work, and perceiving attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature or texture. Frequent (34-66%) stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and visualizing three-dimensions from a two-dimensional medium. Exerting up to 50-100 pounds occasionally. May travel to other on-campus facilities, off-campus facilities and agencies to teach, attend meetings, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must meet at least one of the following Iowa community college faculty qualification standards under IAC 281-21.62:
    • A Bachelor's or higher degree in construction management, civil engineering, architecture, or a closely related field; or
    • An Associate degree in a related field plus a minimum of 3,000 hours of recent and relevant industry experience or
    • A minimum of 6,000 hours of recent and relevant industry experience combined with an industry certification, professional licensure, or on the job training in the field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • Industry certifications such as OSHA 30, LEED, PMP, or equivalent.
  • Experience with estimating software, project scheduling tools (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project), or BIM platforms.
  • Prior teaching or training experience in a technical or workforce education setting.
  • Relevant experience should include commercial construction, construction supervision, project management, field engineering, or related leadership responsibilities.
  • Experience with commercial building systems including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural coordination, site development, or code compliance strongly preferred.
  • Experience with construction software such as scheduling, estimating, takeoff, BIM, CAD, or project management platforms preferred.
