What is a BIM engineer?

BIM Engineers are professionals who specialize in Building Information Modeling (BIM), a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a facility. They use specialized software to create, manage, and analyze 3D models of buildings and infrastructure. BIM Engineers play a key role in coordinating design, construction, and maintenance processes, ensuring better collaboration and efficiency across project teams. Their work helps reduce errors, save costs, and improve the overall quality of construction projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BIM engineer?

To thrive as a BIM Engineer, you need a solid background in architectural, engineering, or construction principles, often supported by a relevant degree or certification in civil engineering or a related field. Expertise in Building Information Modeling (BIM) software such as Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD is crucial, along with familiarity with industry standards. Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities enable effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. These skills ensure efficient project coordination, minimize errors, and drive innovation in construction processes.

How does a BIM engineer typically collaborate with other team members on construction projects?

A BIM Engineer works closely with architects, structural engineers, MEP specialists, and project managers to develop and coordinate digital models that represent the physical and functional aspects of a building. They facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration by ensuring that all stakeholders have access to up-to-date models and clash detection reports, which helps prevent costly errors during construction. Regular coordination meetings and model sharing are common, and strong communication skills are essential for resolving design conflicts and integrating feedback from different teams.

What is the difference between Bim Engineer vs MEP Engineer?

AspectBim EngineerMEP Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires BIM certifications and relevant engineering degreesRequires engineering degree, often with specialization in MEP systems
Work EnvironmentWorks mainly with BIM software, 3D modeling, and coordinationFocuses on design, installation, and maintenance of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing systems
Industry UsageUsed across architecture, engineering, and construction projects for digital modelingPrimarily in construction, design, and facilities management of MEP systems

The Bim Engineer primarily focuses on creating and managing digital building models using BIM software, ensuring coordination among project stakeholders. The MEP Engineer specializes in designing and implementing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within buildings. While both roles require engineering knowledge, Bim Engineers concentrate on digital modeling and coordination, whereas MEP Engineers focus on system design and installation.

Are Bim engineers in demand?

BIM engineers are in high demand in the architecture, engineering, and construction industries due to the increasing adoption of Building Information Modeling technology. Their skills in 3D modeling, coordination, and project management are essential for efficient project delivery, leading to strong job growth and opportunities across various regions. Certifications in BIM software like Revit can enhance employability.

Job description

Titan is a leading national electrical contractor with locations in Florida, Georgia, Texas, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Titan maintains a strong reputation as a leading high-quality, customer-centric service provider which has resulted in strong financial growth since its inception in 2006. As a result, the company has become a trusted partner to its customers and suppliers and has established a proven track record of year-over-year growth. The company has significant opportunities to further penetrate its existing markets and expand into other geographies and service lines.

Build What Others Only Draw.

At Titan Electric, BIM is more than modeling.

It is how we solve problems before they reach the field, improve installation efficiency, support prefabrication, and deliver exceptional project outcomes.

We're looking for a BIM Coordinator who understands the connection between a coordinated model and successful project execution. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys collaborating with operations teams, solving complex coordination challenges, and helping build some of the most challenging electrical construction projects in the Southeast.

If you're passionate about Revit, constructability, coordination, and driving real-world results through technology, we'd like to meet you.

What You'll Do

As a BIM Coordinator, you will serve as the primary BIM resource for assigned projects, supporting coordination efforts from preconstruction through project closeout.

BIM & VDC Coordination
  • Develop, maintain, and coordinate electrical BIM models in Autodesk Revit.
  • Perform clash detection and participate in multi-trade coordination meetings.
  • Identify, communicate, and help resolve coordination issues before construction begins.
  • Coordinate model updates resulting from RFIs, ASIs, design revisions, field conditions, and project changes.
  • Produce coordinated installation drawings, layout drawings, shop drawings, spool drawings, and model-based construction documentation.
  • Maintain project views, schedules, sheets, and model deliverables.
  • Support prefabrication initiatives through accurate and constructible modeling.
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements and Titan Electric BIM standards.
Construction & Field Support
  • Partner with Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field teams to align BIM deliverables with construction schedules and installation strategies.
  • Perform constructability reviews and identify opportunities to improve installation efficiency.
  • Support field layout, coordination, and model-driven workflows.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and model exports to support project planning and procurement efforts.
  • Assist with the development of accurate as-built models and closeout documentation.
Quality & Documentation
  • Conduct quality-control reviews of models and drawings before project milestones.
  • Maintain coordination logs, clash reports, issue tracking, and project documentation.
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of project information within Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and designated project platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to improve BIM processes, workflows, and overall project delivery.
Collaboration & Leadership
  • Serve as the primary BIM point of contact for assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, owners, general contractors, and trade partners.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to BIM Technicians.
  • Promote best practices and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the BIM department.
What Makes You Successful
  • You think beyond the model and understand how electrical systems are installed in the field.
  • You proactively identify problems and bring solutions forward.
  • You communicate effectively with project teams, field leaders, and external partners.
  • You take ownership of model quality, constructability, and coordination outcomes.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can change and projects continue moving forward.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of BIM, VDC, or related modeling experience.
  • Experience developing and maintaining coordinated Revit models throughout construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, model coordination, and clash detection.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3 to 6 years of BIM/VDC experience within the electrical construction industry.
  • Electrical construction field experience or trade background.
  • Experience supporting commercial, industrial, healthcare, institutional, or mission-critical construction projects.
  • Experience participating in multi-trade coordination meetings.
  • Experience supporting prefabrication and model-driven construction workflows.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Construction Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
