Job description

Creative Director – New York, NY

at Billion Dollar Boy

BDB is looking for a Creative Director who can bring passion, confidence, leadership and inspiration to a creative team in the US. We’re looking for an experienced creative thinker who is self‑motivated & proactive to help shape, push and grow the agency’s creative work and offering. This role would be perfect for someone with an obsession with creators and the value they can offer to brands, and is hungry to prove themselves in a senior creative position. Someone who can both encourage playfulness & fuel incredible creativity, while also providing solutions, relentlessly, to problems that have been shared with them, and to problems they’ve proactively uncovered too. Someone who is unsettled, in that they are in constant pursuit of better. They believe what has been done before is not “Best Practice” but “Best so far”. That belief must apply to the work we make but also the way the department operates, and how it interacts with people and teams across the agency.

Creative Direction
  • You’ll be responsible for ensuring the most compelling (and feasible) creative direction is set across all of BDBs project work in your region alongside the US SVP of Creative Strategy.
  • You’ll interrogate creative briefs, then define and clearly communicate what the creative team should deliver as an output on any brief, including spotting opportunities that may not be clearly mentioned.
  • You’ll help our creative team to turn compelling first thoughts into well‑considered, fully worked out ideas explained in decks with clarity and excitement.
Department Leadership and Mentorship
  • You’ll be expected to work alongside the US SVP, Creative Strategy to establish the ideal environment & process for creativity to thrive.
  • You’ll be confident in managing and coaching every level of creative personnel on a day to day basis, discussing and guiding career progression, objective setting, and where necessary having difficult conversations to improve performance.
  • You’ll display a broad knowledge of creative techniques, processes, responses and styles outside of your own personal preference, that you’ll use to guide and develop a variety of different types of creative thinkers in the team.
  • You’ll proactively consider and implement new initiatives and new offerings that would help to evolve BDB as a company, supporting the SVP, Creative Strategy and UK Creative Directors to define the vision for Creative at BDB.
  • You’ll be expected to have a deep commercial understanding of every idea being proposed in your region (be it the cost of the time to develop the idea and production, the value to the brand beyond the brief, the reason that it will succeed, etc)
  • You’ll understand the state of your market and continually identify future opportunity areas for the BDB creative dept to grow into.
  • You’ll advocate for creativity and creative effectiveness, establishing yourself as a clear voice of authority for creator‑powered creativity, within our agency and within the wider industry too.
Client Relations
  • You’ll be expected to form and maintain client relationships at a senior level, representing BDBs current creative work but also helping the client with future opportunities for creativity with BDB.
A Few Key Requirements
  • 8‑10+ years experience required
  • Experience developing concepts and executions for influencer and social marketing campaigns
  • Experience leading and running a Creative team including management of direct reports
  • Deep understanding and excitement around Creative development for creator & brand social channels
  • A diversity of previous work experiences
  • An optimistic view of what’s possible, in general
  • Ability and desire to inspire others (with presentations as well as in everyday interactions)
  • Experience of productive client relationships at a senior level
  • Exceptional ability in working collaboratively with other departments (Strategy, Production and Account Management)
  • A willingness to sometimes develop creative work in the absence of a proven process.
Equal Opportunities and EEO Statement

We encourage employees to be open and confident and appreciate that every member of the team makes a vital difference. Billion Dollar Boy embraces equality, diversity and inclusion and will seek to promote these benefits in all of our business activities. When recruiting new employees or when affording our current employees with opportunities for promotion, it means that we will:

  • Recruit, develop and retain the most talented people, regardless of their background and make best use of their talents
  • Not discriminate unlawfully against any person
  • Select the best person for the job in terms of qualifications and abilities.
  • This sets out our approach to equal opportunities and the avoidance of discrimination at work.
  • A part of what we offer at BDB is a considerate suite of competitive benefits, which will be discussed with you throughout the interview process
