Billing and Coding professionals often encounter challenges such as keeping up with frequent changes in coding standards (like ICD-10 and CPT), ensuring the accuracy of patient data, and staying compliant with healthcare regulations. They must also navigate insurance denials and resolve discrepancies between clinical documentation and billing codes. To thrive as a Billing and Coding Specialist, you need a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems (like ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and healthcare reimbursement processes, often supported by a certification such as CPC or CCS.
