Job description

Purpose: The Bilingual Resource Teacher provides critical leadership and instructional support to strengthen secondary language programming across the district. This role bridges the gap between central leadership and the classroom by driving alignment with district goals, standardizing high-quality instructional practices, and reinforcing program structures. The successful candidate will collaborate directly with district leadership while spending a portion of their time working hands-on at specific school sites to provide direct classroom support and facilitate smooth program transitions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Essential Functions. An individual in this role must be able to perform the following functions with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Deliver Engaging Instructional Support: Provides collaborative, non-evaluative instructional support, coaching, professional learning, and resources to bilingual, ESL, and general education teachers serving culturally and linguistically diverse students. This position does not evaluate employees, perform supervisory duties or direct teaches' instructional practice.
  • Cultivate Professional Development & Collaboration: Partner closely with department leadership to build vibrant collaborative networks for secondary language teachers, designing and delivering professional development centered on High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM), district Scopes and Sequences, and proven classroom models.
  • Promote Equitable Classroom Practices: Cultivate supportive networks that elevate the standard of learning across all district schools, ensuring every student has access to an enriched, high-quality, and equitable educational experience.
  • Expand Pathways & Champion District Goals: Strengthen and scale the Bilingual Seal pathway across district high schools, building teacher capacity and program structures that empower linguistically diverse students to achieve their academic and personal goals in alignment with district milestones.

Duties. All duties are standard and apply to all Albuquerque Public Schools employees. Duties cannot be changed or altered. Employees are not screened based on duties.
  • Complies with state-approved Code of Ethics of the Education Profession, APS employee handbook, employment contract and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Articulates and facilitates the implementation of the mission and values of the Albuquerque Public Schools.
  • Safeguards confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete records and reports as required by law, state directives, District policy and administrative regulations.
  • Shares the responsibility for the supervision and care of District inventory, proper and safe use of facilities, equipment and supplies, and reports safety hazards promptly.
  • Maintains professional relationships and works cooperatively with employees, the community and other professionals.
  • Maintains professional competence through District mandated, individual and staff training, in-service educational activities and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates on committees within areas of responsibility.
  • Performs other tasks related to area of responsibilities as requested or assigned by an immediate supervisor. Temporary teaching assignments may be intermittently assigned based on a rotation basis based on district wide program need

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities.
  • Educational Expertise: Advanced knowledge of second language acquisition, bilingual literacy development, translanguaging, curriculum design, assessment, and instructional planning for secondary students.
  • Strategic Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently facilitate professional development and build school-community relations.
  • Collaborative Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations, with a proven ability to coordinate the work of peer teachers, partner with central leadership, and cultivate professional learning communities.
  • Project & Time Management: Demonstrated flexibility, organization, and problem-solving skills; ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple instructional projects simultaneously across different school sites.
  • Data-Informed Mindset: Proficiency in utilizing educational technology, databases, and spreadsheets to analyze student progress and support instructional planning.
  • Education: Master's degree in Bilingual Education, TESOL, or a related field preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:
Required Education, Licenses, Certifications, & Experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field
  • Valid NM Teacher's Level II or Level III license appropriate to teaching assignment (200 K-8 license elementary, 350 5-9 mid-level for middle school/300 7-12 secondary for middle school, and 300 secondary for high school).
  • 5 or more years' experience teaching students in K-12.
  • Endorsement in Bilingual Education
  • Endorsement in Modern and Classical Languages
