What is a bike program manager?

Bike Program Managers are professionals responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing bicycle-related programs within organizations or municipalities. They work to promote cycling, improve infrastructure, and encourage safe biking practices among the community. Their duties may include coordinating events, managing budgets, collaborating with stakeholders, and advocating for policy changes that support cycling. Bike Program Managers play a crucial role in making communities more bike-friendly and sustainable.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a bike program manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bike Program Manager, you need expertise in program management, urban mobility or transportation planning, and typically a relevant degree in urban planning, transportation, or a related field. Familiarity with GIS mapping tools, project management software, and knowledge of local transportation regulations are commonly required. Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, and effective communication skills set outstanding candidates apart. These capabilities are crucial for successfully developing, implementing, and promoting bike programs that enhance sustainable transportation in communities.
