Vantor is currently seeking a Big Data Analyst to join our team. This role will be performed in our Vantor facility located in Herndon, Virginia and the customer site in Springfield, VA. As a Vantor team member, you will have the opportunity to closely support our mission partners, and your work will have a direct impact on mission imperatives. In this role, you will work closely with software developers, ETL engineers, Big Data SMEs, as well our infrastructure and cybersecurity teams leveraging open-source tools to create and maintain a diverse range of applications. About The Team: * We are a multi-faceted software development and systems administration team working to build and maintain software applications backed by a self-managed cloud infrastructure with a true big-data footprint (over 20 petabytes).
* Our diverse background of experience in mission support and software development serves as a catalyst to solve unique and challenging intelligence problems in support of special operations analysts and their on-going activities.
* Prototyping and frequent, iterative feedback are core to our delivery approach, anchored by a need to work quickly in support of our missions. What You'll Be Doing: * Responsible for performing and developing dataset evaluations and assessments to inform government decision making.
* Shaping data engineering approaches for analytic tradecraft improvements within our applications.
* Identifying and documenting gaps within our data corpus and analytical capabilities.
* Working hand-in-hand with software developers to field requirements and provide feedback as changes are implemented into an application.
* Working with end-users to provide SME support for various data or application questions and requests. Minimum Requirements: * Must have a current/active TS/SCI and be willing and able to obtain a CI polygraph.
* Bachelors degree in a relevant field. Equivalent years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
* At least 5 years of experience as a data analyst, data scientist or similar.
* Experience formulating a repeatable process for data evaluations and communicating findings to government officials.
* In-depth knowledge of technical data types based on previous research and work with data sets of interest. Data types of interest include Technical Telemetry Data and other forms of telecommunication protocol data types, including cellular and wi-fi.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Must be a self-starter with excellent time-management skills and the ability to independently manage multiple concurrent tasks.
* Must be experienced working in fast-paced environments.
* Experience working with Software Engineers to provide feedback and validate the technical implementation for custom applications.
* Experience working with a scripting language like Python, SQL, Spark, PySpark or similar.
* Must be able to work on-site in Herndon, VA, with the ability to work in Springfield, VA as needed. Preferred Qualifications: * Ability to translate technical conclusions and present them to a broader audience.
* Experience conducting geospatial analysis including Activity-Based Intelligence or Pattern of Life analysis.
* Experience applying, improving, and documenting innovative analytic methodologies and ensuring they remain up to date with the latest information.
* Experience with Elasticsearch/Kibana.
* Experience in a customer facing role.
* Familiarity with Gitlab and the Software Development Lifecycle.
* Experience working with Jupyter Notebooks or Apache Zepplin.
