About Us:

Big Country Equipment is a BC-based heavy equipment service and repair company that works with resource-based customers in the construction, forestry, mining, and oil and gas sectors in Western Canada. Big Country Equipment was formed in 2017. We have grown rapidly from a one-truck operation to over 200 employees and a fleet of over 55 fully equipped service trucks, serving customers throughout Western Canada 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Big Country Equipment is hiring multiple experienced licensed Heavy Duty Mechanics (Equipment Technicians) to perform field service, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy mining and construction equipment. This is a rotational field-service opportunity working a 14-days-on, 14-days-off schedule. The successful technician will troubleshoot and repair off-road heavy equipment using company-provided tools while supporting customer operations safely and professionally. Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics and Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered with strong, relevant experience repairing heavy or off-road equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy mining and construction equipment.
  • Perform field-service repairs on multiple equipment types and brands, including Caterpillar (CAT), Komatsu, Hitachi, and John Deere.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain issues.
  • Repair or replace transmission components, differential gears, driveshafts, and related drivetrain components.
  • Use computerized diagnostic software, testing equipment, and technical information to identify required repairs.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance, preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and unscheduled work orders.
  • Prepare accurate and detailed service reports.
  • Test repaired equipment to confirm safe and proper operation.
  • Recommend required repairs and opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
  • Follow all company safety procedures, customer-site requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain all required trade certifications, licences, and site training.
  • Report to work fit for duty and prepared to complete assigned field-service work safely.
  • All related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Three or more years of recent experience diagnosing and repairing heavy or off-road equipment.
  • Recent field-service experience is preferred, ideally working independently from a service truck.
  • A valid provincial trade certification as a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician is preferred.
  • Licensed Truck and Transport Mechanics or Agricultural Equipment Technicians may also be considered when they have relevant heavy-equipment repair experience.
  • Red Seal certification is preferred but is not required for candidates who hold a valid provincial trade certification recognized in the province where they will work.
  • Experience repairing mining equipment is preferred; however, strong construction, forestry, agricultural, or other off-road equipment experience may also be considered.
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Komatsu, Hitachi, or John Deere equipment is preferred.
  • Experience repairing surface drills, electric shovels, or hydraulic shovels is an asset.
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, transmission, and drivetrain systems.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic software and testing equipment.

All Successful Candidates Must:

  • Be proficient in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Provide at least two references from previous direct supervisors.
  • Complete a criminal record check. Minor or unrelated offences will not necessarily disqualify a candidate and will be reviewed individually.
  • Provide a five-year driver’s abstract that is acceptable for the position. Minor infractions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  • Successfully complete an eight-panel drug test, including marijuana, and an alcohol breath test.
  • Be able to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Be seeking direct employment. Subcontractor opportunities are not available for this position.

We thank everyone for applying; however, only those who possess the required knowledge and experience will be contacted for an interview.
