What is a Big Air?

A Big Air job typically involves roles related to the organization, execution, or judging of Big Air competitions in extreme sports like snowboarding or freestyle skiing. These jobs can include event coordinators, judges, course builders, or safety personnel. Professionals in these positions ensure that ramps, jumps, and conditions meet competition standards while prioritizing athlete safety. Some roles may also involve media coverage, athlete management, or technical support during events.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Big Air position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Big Air athlete, you need advanced skills in aerial maneuvers, physical fitness, and a deep understanding of gravity sports such as freestyle skiing or snowboarding. Competitors typically rely on specialized equipment, safety gear, and may hold certifications in first aid or coaching, along with experience in international competitions. Strong mental focus, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure are crucial soft skills. These qualities are essential for both excelling in high-stakes events and maintaining personal safety in this demanding, performance-based field.

What does a typical training schedule look like for a Big Air athlete?

A typical training schedule for a Big Air athlete involves a combination of on-snow or on-ramp practice sessions, strength and conditioning workouts, and routine safety drills. Athletes often work with coaches and trainers to refine specific aerial tricks, improve takeoff and landing techniques, and focus on injury prevention. Off the slopes, video analysis and mental conditioning are frequently incorporated to enhance performance. Training can be both individual and collaborative, especially during team camps or when preparing for major competitions. The schedule is demanding but structured to ensure continuous skill development and peak performance during events.
