Bicycle Engineers collaborate with manufacturers, designers, and mechanics to create efficient and high-quality bicycles for various uses, from racing to commuting.

What are the typical responsibilities of a bicycle engineer during a product development cycle?

Bicycle Engineers are involved in every stage of the product development cycle, from conceptual design and prototyping to testing and refinement. They collaborate closely with industrial designers, manufacturing specialists, and quality assurance teams to ensure that designs are both innovative and manufacturable within cost and safety parameters. Day-to-day tasks may include designing components with CAD software, evaluating materials, performing stress or fatigue tests, and troubleshooting design or production issues. This multidisciplinary process provides engineers with hands-on experience and broad exposure across different aspects of the cycling industry, making it a dynamic and rewarding career.

How to become a bicycle engineer?

To become a bicycle engineer, typically a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a related field is required. Our mission is to create products we love and take care of our customers. We value our team, making sure the best is on the field. We value new ideas from anywhere, inspiring others with our positive energy, dealing with reality to make the tough calls, and getting things done fast-turning ideas into reality.
Position Description:
Trek Bicycle Corporation is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our ERP team, responsible for the development, integration, and production support of our JDE ERP platform and a broad ecosystem of connected third-party systems. The team owns the full lifecycle of the ERP ecosystem-from architecture and development through go-live and ongoing production support-making this a high-impact role with broad visibility across the organization.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Translate functional requirements into technical specifications and solutions.
  • Lead technical aspects of ERP projects, including scoping, system design, implementation, and go-live support.
  • Analyze and optimize business processes across functional areas (Finance, Distribution, Manufacturing, etc.) through ERP and integration enhancements.
  • Perform code reviews and enforce development standards, documentation practices, and best practices across the team.
  • Triage and resolve complex production issues across the ERP ecosystem and connected third-party applications.
  • Document technical solutions, integration architecture, and system configurations to maintain a robust knowledge base.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to junior team members on ERP development practices and tools.

Position Requirements:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in ERP development, with demonstrated JDE expertise.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect, document, and deliver end-to-end technical solutions across the full ERP development lifecycle.
  • Advanced proficiency in JDE customization tools including Form Design Aid, Report Design Aid, Business Function development, and Orchestrator.
  • Strong understanding of ERP-related business processes, with particular depth in Sales and Distribution, and experience reviewing and translating business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills; able to present technical concepts clearly to non-technical business partners.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers and contributing to team standards and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with key third-party systems in the Trek ERP ecosystem, including DSI (warehouse/distribution), Transform (data transformation), ProShip (shipping), and Loftware (labeling).
  • Familiarity with AI tools and their practical application in ERP development workflows (e.g., AI-assisted coding, intelligent automation, or AI-driven process analysis).
  • Experience with integration development using APIs, EDI, web services, or middleware platforms, including familiarity with JDE Orchestrator Framework or cloud integration tools.
  • Familiarity with JDE functional modules beyond Sales and Distribution, such as Finance, Manufacturing, or Transportation Management.

Trek Benefits:
• Flexible and fun company culture
• Competitive health care
