Job description

About Us
Portland State University (PSU) Foundation fuels the mission and priorities of Oregon's most diverse, innovative, and affordable research university by raising and stewarding philanthropic gifts that transform lives and communities.
Recognized as one of Oregon's best non-profits to work for five years in a row, we are a community of purpose-driven professionals who lead with heart, act with trust, and keep our mission forward in everything we do. Guided by creativity and collaboration, we foster a strong sense of belonging-empowering every team member to show up authentically and think boldly.
At PSU, more than half of incoming first-year students identify as BIPOC, nearly a quarter are parents, and half are the first in their families to attend college. When PSU graduates thrive, families transform, communities prosper, and innovation expands. The PSU Foundation plays a vital role in advancing this impact by inspiring donors, engaging alumni and community partners, and stewarding resources to Portland State University with integrity and purpose.
About The Role
In this new role, you will help PSUF make better decisions by turning data into opportunities and recommendations. Your work will help identify prospective major donors, highlight trends in engagement and giving, and provide the analysis needed to support fundraising strategy. You will partner closely with colleagues across the organization to answer important questions, solve problems, and uncover new opportunities.
You may enjoy this role if you:
  • Love exploring data and uncovering insights that help people make better decisions.
  • Enjoy asking questions, solving problems, and connecting dots.
  • Are happy partnering with colleagues and translating complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Take ownership of your work while openly sharing knowledge and learning from others.
  • Enjoy continuous learning and exploring new tools, techniques, and approaches.
  • Are motivated by seeing your work inform strategy and drive meaningful outcomes.

The Senior Advancement Business Intelligence Analyst serves as the Foundation's senior technical expert for business intelligence, reporting, analytics, and data visualization. This role designs, builds, and supports business intelligence solutions that help leaders and frontline teams understand fundraising performance, pipeline activity, donor engagement, campaign progress, operational trends and future opportunities through advanced analytics and predictive insights.
This position translates business needs into scalable reporting, dashboard, and analytics solutions. The role partners closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, develop technical solutions, validate data, improve reporting processes, and strengthen the organization's ability to use data in decision making.
Position Overview
Business Intelligence (BI) Solution Design & Technical Implementation
  • Serve as the Foundation's senior technical expert for business intelligence, reporting, analytics, dashboards, and data visualization.
  • Design, build, test, document, and maintain BI solutions that support fundraising performance, campaign execution, pipeline management, donor engagement, and operational effectiveness.
  • Execute the BI priorities, translating strategic direction into practical reporting and analytics solutions.
  • Partner with fundraising, annual giving, alumni engagement, donor services, finance, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business questions into usable reporting and analytics tools.
  • Recommend technical approaches, reporting structures, data models, and visualization methods that improve accuracy, usability, scalability, and sustainability.
  • Build and maintain reporting datasets, dashboards, reports, scorecards, and analytical tools using approved platforms and standards.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on BI tools, data structures, reporting logic, and analytics methods.

Reporting Analytics & Dashboard Delivery
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, scorecards, self-service tools, and visualizations and analytical models that support fundraising strategy and engagement outcomes.
  • Build and maintain KPIs, business definitions, and calculation logic in alignment with standards established by the AVP and data governance processes.
  • Produce pipeline analytics, portfolio performance metrics, campaign reporting, fundraising forecasts, predictive models and other analyses needed for planning and decision-making.
  • Translate business needs into scalable reporting and BI solutions that are accurate, user-friendly, and sustainable.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, opportunities, and recommendations that inform fundraising strategy.
  • Validate reporting outputs, troubleshoot discrepancies, and partner with data management staff to resolve data quality or logic issues.
  • Guide stakeholders in interpreting reports, dashboards, KPIs, and performance metrics.
  • Train users on reporting tools, dashboards, and data interpretation to support greater self-service and data literacy.
  • Identify trends, insights, and opportunities for reporting improvement.

Governance, Process Improvement & User Adoption
  • Implement and maintain reporting standards, business definitions, documentation, and quality-control practices established through the Foundation's data and reporting governance framework.
  • Maintain documentation for reporting logic, data sources, dashboards, and standard reports to support transparency and continuity.
  • Manage reporting intake, requirements clarification, development timelines, testing, and lifecycle maintenance for assigned BI solutions.
  • Identify inefficiencies in reporting workflows and recommend improvements to strengthen accuracy, usability, and sustainability.
  • Support the transition to a more proactive, standardized BI function by improving report consistency, documentation, and self-service access.
  • Support the adoption of self-service reporting tools and data literacy practices across fundraising and engagement teams.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, including AI-enabled analytics and automation tools, and recommend practical applications to improve reporting efficiency and insight generation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with fundraising CRM platforms (e.g., Blackbaud CRM, RE NXT, Salesforce).
  • Experience working with complex fundraising data environments including data warehouses, data modeling, and ETL processes.
  • Proven ability to translate fundraising and engagement business requirements into technical solutions.
  • Experience implementing reporting standards, documentation practices, quality-control processes, and self-service analytics solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and explain reporting outputs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to contribute technical leadership to cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders through subject matter expertise, clear communication, and practical problem-solving.
  • Proficiency with commonly used workplace technologies, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, CRM platforms, and other cloud-based collaboration and document management tools; demonstrated ability to leverage emerging technologies to enhance productivity, accuracy, and overall work quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in an inclusive, equitable, and respectful environment, collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive and collaborative workplace culture through active engagement with colleagues, open communication, and alignment with organizational values and culture initiatives.
