Division/Department Information

The Department of Art and Design at St. John's University invites applications for an adjunct position in Graphic Design, to begin September 2026. The Department is located on the Queens campus in New York City, and offers BFA degrees in Graphic Design, Illustration, Photography, and Fine Art, a BA in Art History and an MA in Museum Studies. The mission of the Department, since the first degree program was offered in 1963, is to provide a rich and challenging educational environment that emphasizes the creation of visually sophisticated works and concurrently develops the whole person: intellectually, ethically, and critically. Students in the 132-credit NASAD accredited Graphic Design program complete a rigorous program of coursework followed by a capstone course and internship or thesis.

Responsibilities

The Department of Art and Design at St. John's University in Queens, NY is seeking adjunct faculty to teach an undergraduate Graphic Design class for the Fall 2026 semester.

ART 3120 Interaction Design I introduces students to the dynamic world of user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, blending principles of interaction design and visual storytelling. Students design for digital platforms and learn foundational HTML and CSS, translating information architecture into prototype and functioning websites. The class meets for 5 hours and fifty minutes a week on Monday and Thursday afternoon from 3:25-6:15.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Graphic, Interaction or Experience Designer who is currently working in the field and/or who has college teaching experience. Candidates should have a Master's degree or equivalent industry experience.
