Job description
SUMMARY
The Packaging Operator is responsible for the operation of the packaging department including the packaging, palletizing and boxing of cheese, documentation, and all other related processes throughout the packaging area. The schedule is full time working a 2-2-3 rotation on 1st Shift, 4:00am to 4:00pm. Base pay is $19.50 per hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operates and monitors block forming tower sequencing through HMIs, metal detectors and Beta-Vac packaging machine to ensure quality of products to company and customer standards.
- Loads bags onto tower.
- Enters work orders, lot numbers and items codes into scale equipment. Weighs and attaches identification labels to blocks. Adjusts towers to ensure proper block heights and product weight.
- Boxes cheese according to work instruction and performs quality control checks.
- Palletizes blocks, labels pallets and moves finished pallets from production to staging area.
- Closes work orders for product shipment; records pertinent information for financial tracking.
- Performs setup, calibration, and minor maintenance on scale, printer, and box taper.
- Documents all production according to established procedures.
- Takes and records cooler temperatures; reports deviations from company standards to Production Supervisors and/or Maintenance.
- Sanitizes equipment and block forming/packaging area according to company procedures.
- Trains other team members in the essential duties and responsibilities for this department.
- Complies with all company Safety, HACCP and GMP policies
- Immediately reports any food safety or quality issues to management or other individual authorized to initiate action.
- Performs Sanitation of all packaging equipment per Sanitation Instructions. (Blockforming Towers, Conveyance Belts, Sealer, Scale, Floors, pipes, drains)
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- May be required to load pallets onto shipping trucks.
- May be required to assist other Team Members in the vat room area with assorted tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High school degree or equivalent (GED), preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably food manufacturing, desired.
OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Strong operation control and monitoring skills to control operations of equipment and to make sure machines are working properly.
- Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of two-, three- and four-digit numbers using units of weight measurement and counts.
- Ability to read and comprehend work related documents and carry out work instructions.
- Ability to communicate information and ideas effectively and in a way that other Team Members will understand.
- Ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions or apply general rules to specific problems.
- Basic Computer Skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office

The noise level is usually loud and may require ear protection.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be required to work with motorized pallet truck, elevator, calculator, printer, copy machine, scanning equipment and box taper.
PPE’s REQUIRED
Personal protective equipment that is required when working with hazardous materials or loud equipment includes: safety goggles, rubber or latex gloves, lab coat and hearing protection.
