What is a virtual assistant?

Virtual Assistants (VAs) are professionals who provide administrative, technical, or creative assistance to clients remotely from a home office or other location. They handle tasks such as managing emails, scheduling appointments, data entry, social media management, and more, allowing businesses and entrepreneurs to focus on core activities. VAs use online tools and communication platforms to collaborate with clients, making them a flexible and cost-effective solution for organizations of all sizes.

How does a virtual assistant typically manage communication and collaboration with multiple clients or teams?

Virtual Assistants (VAs) often work with several clients or teams simultaneously, requiring strong organizational and communication skills. They usually rely on cloud-based project management tools, shared calendars, and regular check-ins via email or messaging platforms to stay aligned with each client's priorities and deadlines. Setting clear expectations around response times and availability helps VAs manage workloads efficiently and maintain professional relationships. Proactive communication and transparent progress updates are key to successfully supporting diverse teams remotely.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Assistant, you need strong organizational abilities, proficiency in administrative tasks, and experience with office software, often supported by relevant coursework or certifications. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, project management platforms (e.g., Trello, Asana), and communication apps is typically required. Excellent time management, communication, and problem-solving skills help Virtual Assistants stand out in supporting clients remotely. These skills ensure efficient task completion, clear client interactions, and effective support in fast-paced, virtual work environments.

Job Title

This is a highly visible, growth-oriented role that combines clinical education, relationship development, healthcare system strategy, and measurable revenue impact. The ideal candidate thrives in complex healthcare environments, enjoys working directly with providers, and is motivated by building long-term, sustainable programs that drive both patient outcomes and organizational growth.

What Makes This Role Unique
  • Opportunity to build and shape therapy programs within one of the most complex healthcare systems in the country
  • Direct impact on veteran patient outcomes through non-pharmaceutical treatment options
  • High degree of autonomy with strong executive and sales leadership visibility
  • Clear pathway for growth into regional or national VA leadership roles
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Drive Relationship Development Across VA Clinical Stakeholders

  • Build and expand strategic relationships with VA clinical teams, service line leaders, prosthetics departments, and administrative decision-makers.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for therapy adoption, reimbursement navigation, and long-term program sustainability within assigned VA sites.

Deliver Expert-Level Clinical & Product Education

  • Provide comprehensive education, demonstrations, and ongoing clinical training on therapy solutions.
  • Establish credibility as a subject matter expert across therapy indications, best practices, documentation, coding considerations, VAMC policies, and patient access pathways.

Increase Therapy Utilization & Revenue Growth

  • Drive measurable increases in therapy utilization and prosthetics orders across assigned VA facilities.
  • Support growth targets through expansion of patient starts, activation of new prescribing providers, and standardization of referral pathways.
  • Contribute to facility-level and regional growth objectives, including expansion into additional VAMCs and VISN initiatives over time.
  • Meet and/or exceed Altivera Medical's 2026 VA payor growth objectives, contributing directly to organizational revenue, market expansion, and long-term sustainability within federal health systems.
  • Operate as a sales-driven, productivity-accountable role, with performance measured by utilization growth, order volume, provider adoption, and facility-level expansion

Optimize VA Workflow & Provider Efficiency

  • Assess existing clinical and administrative workflows to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with clinical and prosthetics teams to implement streamlined processes aligned with VA policies and payer requirements.

Execute Strategies Aligned to VAMC Payer & Organizational Objectives

  • Ensure therapy programs align with VAMC reimbursement structures, prosthetics service requirements, and medical necessity documentation standards.
  • Translate regulatory updates, payer changes, and organizational priorities into actionable field strategies.

Provide Data-Driven Insights & Forecasting

  • Track adoption trends, utilization barriers, and growth opportunities across assigned facilities.
  • Provide strategic feedback, utilization insights, and forecasting input to sales leadership to support regional and national VA strategy.

Enable Multi-Site Expansion Across VA Networks

  • Support expansion into additional VAMCs, CBOCs, and VISN-level initiatives once operational maturity is achieved.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with government accounts, contracting, reimbursement, and marketing teams to accelerate growth.

Additional Role Considerations

  • Responsibilities, scope, and assigned facilities may evolve based on business needs and organizational priorities.
  • This role includes local and regional travel to VA facilities and affiliated clinics as required.

Required Experience

  • Experience in healthcare, medical device, clinical sales, or federal healthcare systems
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work independently and strategically within complex healthcare environments
  • Experience with rehabilitation, pain management, or prosthetics teams is a plus
  • VA experience or established VA relationships preferred but not required
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3+ years of healthcare, medical device, or clinical field experience preferred
