Responsibilities

As a Safety Manager, your key responsibility will be to manage and enforce Wilhelm's Safety Program for the assigned project(s) by identifying, eliminating and controlling hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and/or property damage. By using and enforcing job specific safety standards, best management practices, and Wilhelm's safety program, the Safety Manager shall ensure the safety of all persons and property on the job site resulting in an accident/incident free project.

 A.    Education

  • Conduct weekly "Toolbox Safety Meeting' and document content and attendance.
  • Conduct Safety Orientation for new employees.
  • Advise project staff on site specific safety issues/guideline·        
  • Provide leadership on the project and build working relationship with project staff and subcontractor safety representative to ensure proper compliance
  • Evaluate the need for safety training and make recommendations        
  • Educate and advise project staff on safety guidelines and policies
  • Collaborate with foremen on means/methods for performing HRA work (excavations, fall protection, heavy equipment, etc.)
  • Monitor LOTO, pipe testing procedures

 B.    Jobsite

  • Enforce safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all State, Federal, Local regulations (including OSHA), as well as Wilhelm company policies and owner/contractual requirements.
  • Conduct daily and/or weekly (as appropriate or specified by job) job site inspections.
  • Attend Owner Meetings
  • Record observations from site inspections and complete required reports.
  • Investigate, corroborate, document, all accidents, incidents, and near misses on the jobsite.
  • Recommend and implement corrective action based on policies, guidelines, and laws.
  • Complete site walks at least 3 - 4 times per day.

What it takes

  • 7+ years' safety experience in construction or similar industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction methods and OSHA standards.
  • OSHA 30 Certification        
  • Able to successfully solve difficult contract and contract-related technical problems requiring excellent judgment
  • MUST want to be in the field, not behind a desk
  • Basic working knowledge of MS Office and Windows
