This opportunity entails being responsible for the day-to-day operations of the benefits function. This job manages the planning, implementation and administration of various benefit programs, assessing effectiveness, ensuring cost-effectiveness, market-competitiveness, and consistency with HR overall strategic plans and objectives.
This position can be located at either our downtown KC or Overland Park office locations.

What You'll Do:

  • Manages, coaches, and develops the benefits team.
  • Establishes goals and objectives, assesses performance and provides on-going feedback.
  • Takes a leadership role in understanding the business, balancing needs of HNTB and employees, and appropriately assessing risk.
  • Conducts analysis and oversees the design and development of plan changes as necessary to ensure competitive and cost effective benefits plans.
  • Recommends benefits programs and/or benefit changes to management by studying employee requirements, health plan performance and benefit trends.
  • Manages vendor relationships and renewal processes to ensure benefit programs are cost-effective, compliant and meet service level agreements.
  • Evaluates services, coverage and options available through insurance companies to determine programs best meeting needs of HNTB.
  • Partners closely with Corporate Finance to provide integrated health plan performance and budget reports.
  • Work with HR Partners to ensure seamless migration of plans and programs from development state to implementation.
  • Responds to and resolves escalated employee concerns regarding benefits programs; advises, approves, or denies exception requests.
  • Monitors and analyzes plan costs, recommends revisions as needed, reviews renewals and contracts.
  • Writes and distributes summary plan descriptions.
  • Writes and develops summary plan descriptions.
  • Ensures that development and execution of administrative policies governing employee benefits are in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Informs, gives advice, and counsels management on trends and current developments in the field of employee benefit programs.
  • Manages the open enrollment process by determining benefit changes and working with staff to develop and deliver communication pieces,manages the Open Enrollment data entry and data transfer, and troubleshooting any issues that arise along the way.
  • Participates in development, implementation and maintenance of benefit policies, objectives short-and long-range planning.
  • Directs design and administration of retiree health care benefit
  • Consults with and advises employees on eligibility provisions and other matters related to benefits.
  • Supports the HR Solution Center team members by providing subject matter expertise on benefit issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or Human Resources
  • 7 years related benefits experience
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of employee benefit policies and procedures and regulations.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
