Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Behavioral Health UR/Intake Coordinator is a member of the interdisciplinary team who attends and

participates in treatment planning and in all staff meetings. The UR/Intake Coordinator answers intake calls

and determines the disposition of the patient according to the clinical criteria and directs the caller to the

appropriate services. The Behavioral Health UR/Intake Coordinator performs face- to-face assessments in the ED, the Behavioral Health Center, and nursing homes, establishes clinical criteria, obtains insurance pre-certification and facilitates transfer to SWBHC, or other facility or out-patient services as determined by the physician. The Behavioral Health UR/Intake Coordinator is responsible for obtaining authorizations for admission and continued stay for assigned patients. Must possess ability to

effectively screen. Must have knowledge of EMTALA, JCAHO and CMS standards and the ability to follow

oral and written instructions.

Service Excellence:

Participates in the Hospital's Service Excellence Program designed to improve patient care, employee and physician satisfaction. Participation includes knowledge of HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Systems and Providers, which measures patient's perceptions of care received and Core Measure Set, which measures performance of patients', care based on medical research.

EDUCATION:

Associates or Bachelors degree or 3 years MHT experience.


Minimum Bachelor's Degree or 3 years experience as a MHT II.

TASKS:

Assessment and documentation of patients for possible admission to the behavioral health center

Obtaining insurance authorization for inpatient admissions

Documentation in APS Careconnections Program

Reviewing and reporting clinical information to the patient's insurance company for continued stay authorizations

Communicating between other hospital departments and on site physicians during any psychiatric consults

Making appropriate referrals for assessed patients that do not meet admission criteria

Communicating the appropriate procedures to potential patients during inquiry calls

Promotes customer service (Patients, Families, Visitors, Employees, Physicians)

Other duties as assigned

Apply physical intervention techniques as a last resort to prevent harm to patients and/or staff
