Job description

Behavioral Health Therapist 2 Inpatient Behavioral Health

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is looking for a dedicated Behavioral Health Therapist 2 to join the team. This role will be full‑time day shift variable schedule with a rotating weekend.

The Behavioral Health Therapist 2 assesses and diagnoses mental health and/or substance use disorders through a bio/psycho/social department specific evidenced based assessment. Integrates assessments using information related to cultural, clinical, ethnic, age and other factors into the plan of care. Provides a range of therapeutic interventions, psycho‑educational programming and behavioral interventions to assist the patient/family in achieving the goals and objectives of the individualized service plan. Provides care management to ensure the patient and family receive and are subsequently referred to appropriate healthcare and community resources to optimize treatment/intervention outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Certification - Basic Life Support within 3 Months, Crisis Prevention Institute in‑person training for non violent crisis intervention, receive CPI blue card within 6 months of hire. After 9/1/25, Vistelar replaces CPI for new and renewed de‑escalation certifications.
  • Licensure - Licensed Mental Health Specialist Upon Start Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Psychologist (LCP), or Licensed Substance Abuse Professional (LSATP).
  • Experience - Two years of experience in mental health/substance use disorder treatment, psychoeducational programming including targeted, evidence‑based interventions (crisis intervention, trauma, and integrative therapies).
  • Education - Master's Degree, Ph.D., PsyD, EdD in Mental Health, Social Work, Counseling, Substance Use Disorders or Behavioral Health‑related field.

  • Previous experience with high acuity and hospitalization highly preferred
