What the Personal Health Assistant Does:

  • Assist students with personal care needs including toileting, feeding, dressing, and hygiene while promoting dignity and independence.
  • Support students with mobility needs, including safe lifting, transfers, positioning, and use of wheelchairs or assistive technology.
  • Provide encouragement and behavioral support to help students engage in learning and daily school activities.
  • Monitor student safety during transitions, physical activities, and throughout the school day.
  • Help maintain a positive and orderly classroom environment; assist teachers with supervision in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and on school grounds.
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure consistent care and support for students with disabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support students' health, safety, and learning.
Qualifications

What the Personal Health Assistant Brings to the Team:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience supporting students with disabilities in a school, clinical, or caregiving setting preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to provide appropriate care with dignity, independence, and privacy in mind
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  • Physical ability to lift up to 35 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 70 lbs. (with assistance or Hoyer lift)
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel throughout the school day
