Job description

Role: Data Analyst

Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)

Job type: Contract

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Analyst who is passionate about data, analytics, and turning complex information into actionable business insights. This person will take a leading role in building and owning Power BI dashboards and analytics solutions that help business and product teams make informed, data-driven decisions.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Power BI, SQL, AWS, DynamoDB, and PostgreSQL, along with excellent communication skills. You will work closely with business stakeholders, product teams, and engineering to define metrics, build scalable analytics solutions, and translate technical and behavioral data into clear insights.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced analyst who wants to be a strategic analytics partner—not simply a report builder.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and own high-quality Power BI dashboards and reports for business, product, and operational stakeholders.
  • Partner with stakeholders to define KPIs, metrics, and business requirements and translate them into scalable data models and visualizations.
  • Analyze and model data from UDH data sources, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, and other enterprise data platforms.
  • Leverage AWS-hosted data and infrastructure to support reporting and analytical use cases.
  • Incorporate Real User Monitoring (RUM) and Application Performance Monitoring (APM) data into dashboards to identify trends in application performance, reliability, and user experience.
  • Develop and maintain advanced DAX measures, calculations, and Power BI data models following best practices.
  • Build dashboards that are high-performing, intuitive, maintainable, and optimized for self-service analytics.
  • Validate data accuracy, conduct root-cause analysis, and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve data inconsistencies.
  • Establish standards and best practices for dashboard design, metric definitions, documentation, and data visualization.
  • Translate complex technical and behavioral data into meaningful business insights for non-technical audiences.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other analysts and help improve the team's overall analytics maturity.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Analytics, Data Science, Business, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or data analysis.
  • Advanced hands-on experience with Power BI, including:
  • Data modeling
  • DAX
  • Power BI Service
  • Dashboard development and optimization
  • Strong SQL skills with experience querying PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience working with NoSQL databases, particularly DynamoDB.
  • Experience working with data and analytics in AWS environments.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret technical and behavioral data, including RUM and APM metrics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex data and insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with UDH (Unified Data Hub) or similar unified data architectures.
  • Familiarity with RUM/APM and application observability platforms, including performance, latency, availability, and error metrics.
  • Experience building dashboards for product analytics, application reliability, customer experience, or operational analytics.
  • Knowledge of data governance, KPI standardization, metric definitions, and self-service analytics.
  • Previous experience serving as an Analytics Lead, Domain Owner, or Senior Analytics Consultant.
  • Experience working closely with engineering, product, and business teams in a cross-functional environment.

What Success Looks Like

  • Business and product leaders rely on your dashboards to make data-driven decisions.
  • Performance, reliability, usage, and business metrics are clearly defined, trusted, and consistently understood.
  • Dashboards effectively combine business, product, AWS, and observability data.
  • Analytics solutions are scalable, performant, and easy for business users to consume.
  • You become a trusted strategic thought partner across the organization—not just a dashboard developer.
