Company Description: H.J. Martin and Son is a diversified construction company specializing in commercial & residential flooring, glass & glazing, walls & ceilings, commercial doors & hardware, and millwork & fixture installation.
Position Description
Position Summary: This position works closely with our Director of Safety and the safety team. The Field Safety Specialist provides safety leadership to ensure compliance with corporate and construction safety standards, implement safety directives, assist with training program, improve safety performance, assist in record keeping and data organization, employee education and ensure safety policies and procedures are followed.
Principal Responsibilities:
  • Assist and inform employees on proper safety practices, including new hire safety orientation
  • Provide detailed written description of all job site visits
  • Define and document processes and procedures to create department efficiencies
  • Create job site specific safety plans with Project Managers
  • Electronic tracking of safety training by employees
  • Investigate accidents or incidents that may occur on job site along with General Contractor
  • Assist with paperwork for injured workers in the temporary transitional return to work program
  • Assist Marketing with signage on job sites
  • Support Marketing with job site tour planning, event set up and guide tour group
  • Attend safety-related meetings with General Contractors and subcontractors
  • Motivate and develop safety awareness, assisting project management and supervisors in applying safety methods when facing construction challenges
  • Interact effectively with project management, providing an advanced level of safety knowledge and support, and offering professional leadership, while evaluating job site safety related issues and potentially hazardous conditions
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Perform basic OSHA training when appropriate
  • Stay current with OSHA regulations and industry best practices
  • Cultivate a work environment that supports our safety culture
  • As needed, conduct job site inspections to assess safety deficiencies, hazardous conditions and develop appropriate proactive action or plan
  • Work with project management team on identifying employee behavior-based safety
  • Assure all employees have the proper training and certification on standards and equipment being used
  • Willingness to travel daily to various job sites and possible brief overnight stays when applicable

Other Duties As Assigned: Performs other related duties as assigned including supporting team members in the completion of their work for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the business.
Position Requirements
Experience/Education Required:
  • Occupational Safety degree preferred, but not required
  • Field construction experience preferred
  • Ability to travel daily for an undetermined amount of time and mileage
  • Proficiency in using, Adobe Acrobat, Foxit and Microsoft Office: Word and Outlook
  • Strong written and excellent verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized and possess the ability to multi-task, while meeting tight deadlines under pressure alone or as part of a team
  • Ability to follow direction and manage specific tasks to completion
  • Ability to learn new technologies and concepts
