Job description

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction and supervision of the Program Director, the counselor is expected to supervise, manage and interact with the children registered in the Goodtimes program.
Hours of work: 6:45am – 8:30am.
Days: August 5, 2025 - May 20, 2026
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Program Director.
• Supervise and interact with a specific group of children while maintaining a professional attitude and loyalty to the YMCA.
• To plan, implement and participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to, weekly lesson plans, sports, games, crafts, etc.
• Be responsible for the safety of program participants at all times.
• Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, program participants and other staff.
• Assist with general site maintenance.
• Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training programs.
• To complete all required documentation for the program.
• Responsible for maintenance and care of equipment and supplies
• To help with housekeeping tasks as necessary.
• Arrive at the site and be ready to work by the scheduled work time.
• May substitute at a program site and perform any other added responsibilities as assigned.
Before School Sites: Bear Elementary School, Blount Elementary, Brewbaker, Floyd, Forest Avenue, Garrett, Halcyon, MacMillan, and Wilson.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least 17 years old, undergoing professional preparation to be a leader of young children or having experience with elementary age children. Must be willing to fulfill the counselor’s responsibilities in accordance with the YMCA’s philosophy and goals.
Certifications and Trainings
  • Current CPR; First Aid; AED or within 30 days
