Job description

Job Title: OTA Testing Engineer
Location: Mountain View, CA
Work Mode: Onsite

Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced OTA (Over-the-Air) Testing Engineer with 5+ years of experience in software/firmware testing, mobile device testing, embedded systems, or connected devices. The candidate will be responsible for validating OTA software and firmware updates, ensuring reliable update delivery, installation, recovery, and post-update functionality across various devices and network conditions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and execute OTA test plans, test cases, and test scenarios.
  • Test end-to-end OTA update workflows including download, installation, reboot, upgrade, downgrade, rollback, and recovery.
  • Validate OTA updates across different device configurations, software versions, and network conditions.
  • Perform functional, regression, integration, system, and compatibility testing.
  • Validate software/firmware update packages and ensure successful deployment.
  • Test OTA updates over Wi-Fi and cellular networks.
  • Validate update behavior under poor or interrupted network connectivity.
  • Test failure scenarios such as interrupted downloads, low battery, insufficient storage, and network disconnections.
  • Verify device functionality before and after OTA updates.
  • Analyze test failures, collect logs, and perform initial troubleshooting and root-cause analysis.
  • Work closely with developers, firmware engineers, QA teams, and product teams to identify and resolve issues.
  • Create detailed defect reports and track issues through resolution.
  • Automate repetitive OTA testing activities where applicable.
  • Maintain test documentation, reports, and testing metrics.
Required Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in QA/Software/Firmware/Embedded Testing.
  • Strong experience with OTA / Over-the-Air update testing.
  • Experience testing embedded systems, connected devices, mobile devices, or automotive systems.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC and STLC.
  • Experience with functional, regression, integration, and system testing.
  • Experience with Linux/Android environments is preferred.
  • Experience with ADB, shell scripting, and log analysis is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Jira or similar defect tracking tools.
  • Good understanding of Wi-Fi, cellular networks, and basic networking concepts.
  • Experience with test automation using Python or similar scripting languages is preferred.
  • Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with firmware/software update systems.
  • Experience with OTA update validation for automotive, IoT, mobile, or embedded devices.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD and automated test frameworks.
  • Experience with tools such as Jenkins, Git, Jira, and Linux.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
