Position Summary

The Before and After School Care Program Monitor is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, organized, and Christ-centered environment for students participating in Wilmington Christian Academy's Before and After School Care Program. The Monitor will supervise students, facilitate age-appropriate activities, maintain a positive atmosphere, and support the mission and values of Wilmington Christian Academy.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Provide active and attentive supervision of students at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, orderly, and welcoming environment.
  • Follow all school policies, safety procedures, and Before and After School Care Program procedures.
  • Greet students and families in a friendly, professional manner.
  • Assist students with appropriate activities, games, crafts, homework, reading, and other structured or recreational activities.
  • Encourage positive behavior and model Christ-like attitudes, kindness, respect, patience, and responsibility.
  • Maintain appropriate student-to-staff supervision ratios and follow established supervision procedures.
  • Monitor student arrivals and departures and ensure students are released only to authorized individuals.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and sign-in/sign-out records as required.
  • Communicate student concerns, behavioral issues, injuries, or other significant incidents to the Preschool Director or appropriate administrator.
  • Administer basic first aid according to school policies and training.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established emergency procedures.
  • Help maintain classroom and program areas, including cleaning and organizing materials and equipment.
  • Assist with transitions between activities and school dismissal or morning arrival.
  • Protect the confidentiality of student and family information.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, parents, and other program staff.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or school administration.

Christian Responsibilities

As an employee of Wilmington Christian Academy, the Before and After School Care Program Monitor is expected to:

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children is preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with elementary and/or school-age children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable, punctual, responsible, and trustworthy.
  • Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students.
  • Must meet all school and applicable regulatory requirements for employment and working with children.
  • Must successfully complete required background checks and any required training.

Work Schedule

The position may include morning and/or afternoon hours, depending upon program needs and the employee's assigned schedule.

Typical responsibilities may include:

  • Before School Care: Supervision of students before the regular school day begins.
  • After School Care: Supervision of students following dismissal until they are picked up by an authorized adult.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

  • Move throughout the program area and school facility.
  • Supervise and interact with students for extended periods.
  • Bend, stoop, sit, stand, and walk as needed.
  • Respond quickly to student needs and emergency situations.
  • Lift or move classroom/program materials as reasonably required.

Performance Expectations

The Before and After School Care Program Monitor is expected to maintain a professional attitude, demonstrate reliability and good judgment, and contribute to a safe, encouraging, family-friendly environment for students and families.
