Job Description Summary
An instructor in this position will primarily teach the following courses in-person; 3D Design, other Studio Art Classes, Art History or Art Appreciation, to undergraduate, high school, and early college students who are taught at the main campus on Victoria Rd - Asheville. Art Appreciation courses are also taught at the Madison campus. They must possess the knowledge and skills to teach and supervise students in the classroom. The individual must also possess the knowledge of online instruction, synchronous online instruction, and Zoom as many courses are taught as hybrid courses.
Duties
1. Teach 3D Design courses and supervise students in a variety of times and formats (day, evening, online, hybrid, 8 weeks) with contact hours per week ranging as assigned. Additional courses taught could be Studio Art, Graphic Design, Art History, and Art Appreciation in a variety of times and formats.
2. The 3D Design course is an AFA assessment course, which will require additional oversight of AFA assessment materials.
3. Supervise and teach students in the classroom and/or lab setting.
4. Develop class syllabus, teaching materials, activities, and handouts for each section/class taught.
5. Prepare and deliver lectures.
6. Utilize Moodle software platform, if teaching Digital or Graphic Design courses experience in current creative design software.
7. Abide by all policies, standards, goals, and objectives of the College, the Arts & Sciences Division, and the Department.
8. Participate in assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of activities to improve instructional quality.
9. Maintain accurate student records, Moodle grade book and attendance;
10. Maintain good communication with the department chairperson, instructors, peers, and students.
11. Ability to work as a team.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
1. Master's degree in Art or Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Art (Not Art Education).
2. One-year teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Successful teaching experience: Community college teaching experience preferred.
2. Experience with hybrid or online teaching in Moodle and Zoom.
3. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.
