What is a beer educator?

Beer Educators are professionals who specialize in teaching others about beer, including its history, brewing processes, styles, tasting techniques, and food pairings. They often lead classes, tastings, and brewery tours to help people enhance their appreciation and understanding of beer. Beer Educators may work in breweries, pubs, educational institutions, or as independent consultants. Their goal is to promote beer knowledge and responsible enjoyment among consumers and industry professionals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a beer educator?

To thrive as a Beer Educator, you need a strong knowledge of beer styles, brewing processes, and sensory evaluation, often supported by certifications such as Cicerone or BJCP. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, presentation software, and brewery equipment is typically required. Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills help engage and educate diverse audiences. These skills are vital for delivering accurate information, creating memorable experiences, and fostering appreciation for craft beer.

What are the most common challenges a beer educator faces when conducting tasting sessions for diverse audiences?

Beer Educators often encounter a wide range of familiarity and preferences among participants, which can make it challenging to engage everyone equally during tasting sessions. Balancing technical details with accessible information, managing differing taste sensitivities, and addressing misconceptions about beer styles are frequent hurdles. Successful Beer Educators adapt their approach, foster an inclusive atmosphere, and encourage open dialogue to ensure all attendees feel comfortable exploring new flavors and asking questions.

Job description

Bartender — Braxton Brewing Company (Covington Taproom)

Location: Braxton Brewing Company, 27 W 7th St, Covington, KY Reports To: Taproom Manager Employment Type: Part-Time / Full-Time (Nights amp; Weekends Required) Compensation: Hourly + Tips

About Braxton

Braxton Brewing Company was built in a garage and powered by a dream. Today, our flagship Covington taproom is the heart of our brand — a gathering place for the community, craft beer lovers, and anyone chasing what's next. We're looking for bartenders who bring energy, hospitality, and genuine passion for craft beer to every shift.

Position Summary

As a Bartender at our Covington taproom, you're the face of Braxton. You'll pour our full lineup of beers, seltzers, and craft cocktails while creating an exceptional guest experience — whether it's a regular grabbing their go-to pint, a first-timer exploring the tap list, or a packed house on event night. You'll be a brand ambassador, a beer educator, and a key part of keeping the taproom running smoothly.

What You'll Do
  • Pour and serve beer, seltzers, cocktails, and non-alcoholic options with speed, accuracy, and proper technique
  • Deliver a welcoming, memorable guest experience that reflects Braxton's culture and values
  • Educate guests on our beer lineup — styles, flavor profiles, ingredients, and brewing process — and make confident recommendations
  • Accurately handle transactions through the POS system, including opening/closing tabs, splitting checks, and cash handling
  • Check IDs and serve responsibly in compliance with Kentucky ABC regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar — including glassware, draft lines, coolers, and back bar
  • Support taproom events, private rentals, trivia nights, and high-volume weekends
  • Communicate proactively with taproom leadership about inventory needs, equipment issues, and guest feedback
  • Assist with opening and closing duties, side work, and general taproom upkeep
  • Promote merchandise, to-go beer, Braxton Crew memberships, and upcoming events
What We're Looking For
  • 1+ year of bartending or high-volume service experience preferred (craft beer or brewery experience a plus)
  • Genuine enthusiasm for craft beer and a willingness to keep learning — Cicerone Beer Server certification a plus (or willingness to earn it)
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Current or ability to obtain required alcohol service training/certification per Kentucky requirements
  • Strong communication skills and a guest-first attitude
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while staying positive under pressure
  • Dependability — nights, weekends, and holiday availability required
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs (kegs, cases, CO2 tanks)
  • Team player who pitches in wherever needed — ONE TEAM mentality
What You'll Get
  • Competitive hourly wage plus tips
  • Employee discounts on beer, merch, and food
  • Shift beer and first access to new releases
  • A fun, fast-paced environment at one of Northern Kentucky's most recognized craft breweries
  • Opportunities for growth across our five taproom locations
  • Beer education and training opportunities
