How much do beauty training jobs pay per year?

As of Aug 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for beauty training in the United States is $68,682.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $50,000.00 and $84,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is beauty training?

Beauty training refers to educational programs or courses that teach individuals the skills and techniques required to work in the beauty industry. This can include areas such as hairdressing, makeup artistry, skincare, nail technology, and more. These training programs are often offered by beauty schools or vocational institutions and may lead to certifications or licenses required for professional practice. Beauty training helps students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience to prepare them for a career in beauty services.

How to get into beauty training?

To get into beauty training, individuals typically complete a state-approved cosmetology or esthetician program, which includes coursework and practical experience. Afterward, they must pass a licensing exam to work professionally, and gaining skills in skincare, makeup, or hair styling can enhance employment opportunities.

How to become a beauty training instructor?

To become a beauty training instructor, you typically need to have relevant industry experience and obtain a teaching or training certification in cosmetology or beauty services. Many employers also require a state license or certification in the specific beauty discipline you wish to teach, along with strong communication and instructional skills.

What does a typical week look like for a beauty trainer, and how do they balance hands-on instruction with administrative tasks?

A typical week for a beauty trainer involves a mix of conducting in-person or virtual training sessions, preparing lesson materials, and evaluating student progress. In addition to hands-on demonstrations of beauty techniques, trainers often spend time updating training manuals, coordinating schedules, and staying current with industry trends. Balancing these responsibilities requires strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to different learning styles. Collaboration with other trainers and salon managers is common to ensure training aligns with business goals and certification standards.

What is the difference between Beauty Training vs Esthetician?

AspectBeauty TrainingEsthetician
CredentialsVaries; often includes courses in makeup, skincare, and cosmetology basicsRequires state-specific licensing, usually after completing a cosmetology or esthetician program
Work EnvironmentSalons, spas, beauty schools, freelance settingsSpas, skincare clinics, salons, medical offices
Industry UsageBroadly used for general beauty skills and certificationsSpecialized in skincare, facials, and skin treatments

Beauty Training provides foundational skills across various beauty services, while Esthetician training focuses specifically on skincare and obtaining licensing for professional skincare treatments. Both are essential in the beauty industry but serve different career paths.

What jobs can you get from beauty training?

Beauty training can lead to jobs such as cosmetologist, esthetician, makeup artist, skincare specialist, nail technician, and hair stylist. These roles typically require certification or licensing and involve working in salons, spas, or freelance settings, utilizing skills in skincare, haircare, and cosmetic application.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a beauty trainer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Beauty Trainer, you need expert knowledge in cosmetology techniques, training delivery, and a relevant certification or licensure in beauty therapy. Familiarity with industry-standard tools, products, and digital training platforms is essential. Excellent communication, patience, and the ability to inspire and motivate learners are crucial soft skills. These competencies ensure effective knowledge transfer, industry compliance, and the development of high-quality professionals in beauty services.

We're shaking up the beauty scene at Boots, and our Senior Beauty Specialists are leading the charge. As a Senior Beauty Specialist, you will bring the energy, the passion, and the know-how to coach a team of Boots Beauty Specialists to create personalised experiences for every customer who visit our Beauty Halls.
What you'll be doing
Reporting to the Beauty Assistant Manager, you'll work across many premium beauty brands, guiding your team to offer expert, unbiased advice that helps customers find products that genuinely work for them across skincare, makeup and haircare.
This is a sales-based role, but it's all about team success, not individual competition. You'll energise your crew to meet shared goals and celebrate wins together - and with up to 2000 annual product allowance*, you'll get to personally test premium products.
You will:

  • Work across all premium and luxury brands, offering unbiased recommendations
  • Lead by example, coaching and inspiring your team to bring fun, energy and passion to everything they do
  • Drive collaboration across your team to meet sales targets, it's a group effort (no commission pressure here!)
  • Use your product allowance to test and recommend your favourite finds
  • Create standout experiences through confident customer conversations
  • Bring new product and brand launches to life, creating buzz and excitement across the store
  • Keep the beauty hall and counters stocked and spotless
  • Attend brand training, immersive learning events and our famous virtual and in-person conferences
  • Get involved in social content, events and campaigns

What you'll need to have (our must-haves)

  • A real passion for beauty, skincare, haircare and helping people feel their best
  • Proven experience leading a team to success
  • A warm, confident approach to starting conversations with customers
  • Experience meeting and exceeding sales goals and influencing others to do the same
  • Strong communication skills and an ability to understand people's needs
  • Curiosity and a proactive attitude to learning new techniques and products

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience working in beauty retail or target-based roles
  • An interest in creating social content

Where your brilliance can take you
There are endless possibilities here at Boots. Whether you're ready to grow into a Beauty Assistant Manager role, step into store leadership, join our talented beauty training crew or explore opportunities in our Nottingham-based Support Office, the possibilities are wide open. Wherever you want to go, we'll support you every step of the way to build a brilliant career you're proud of.
Rewards designed for you

  • Quarterly product allowance totalling up to 2000 per year* (*subject to number of hours worked per week.)
  • Generous employee discount across Boots and our partner brands
  • Ongoing expert training from leading beauty brands and experts
  • Boots Retirement Savings Plan
  • Discretionary annual bonus
  • Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave pay, and a gift card for those expecting or adopting
  • Flexible benefits scheme; holiday buying, gym discounts, life assurance and more
  • 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support through TELUS Health, our Employee Assistance Programme

There's lots more in our rewards and benefits package, MyBoosts, our way of helping you get the most out of the good stuff. Find out more at http://boots.jobs/rewards.
