Data Engineer

This position is hybrid working from our Legacy West Support Center located in Plano Texas.

Beauty Systems Group, branded as Cosmo Prof or Armstrong McCall stores, along with its direct sales consultants, sell professionally branded products intended for use and resale by salons to retail consumers.

About the role

This is a hybrid position working from our Legacy West Support Center in Plano, Texas.

The Data Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, and maintenance of enterprise data solutions on the Data Bricks Lake House Platform. This role works closely with senior Data Engineers, Data Architects, Analytics Engineers, and business stakeholders to develop data pipelines, transform and validate data, and support reporting, analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), and machine learning (ML) initiatives. The Data Engineer I will participate in the implementation of modern cloud-based data solutions while developing technical expertise in data engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT data pipelines using Data Bricks, Apache Spark, and SQL.
  • Assist with building and supporting Delta Lake tables and Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
  • Develop data transformations using PySpark and SQL.
  • Support ingestion of data from enterprise applications, APIs, databases, and cloud storage.
  • Perform data validation, cleansing, and quality assurance activities.
  • Monitor data pipelines and troubleshoot processing issues.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for data processes and workflows.
  • Assist with implementing data governance, security, and data quality standards.
  • Support reporting, analytics, and business intelligence initiatives.
  • Participate in Agile planning, sprint reviews, and team meetings.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to implement scalable and reliable data solutions.
  • Continuously learn new technologies and data engineering best practices.

 

Knowledge, skills & abilities requirement

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 0-2 years of experience in data engineering, software development, analytics, or related technical experience.
  • Internship, co-op, research, or academic project experience in data engineering, cloud computing, or software development preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Basic programming experience with Python or Java.
  • Exposure to Data Bricks, Apache Spark, cloud platforms, or data engineering concepts through coursework, internships, or personal projects preferred.
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work effectively in a collaborative environment.

 Working conditions & physical requirements

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, retail stores, and residences or commercial vehicles, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, observance of fire regulations and traffic signals, etc. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.

However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, books, small parts; using a keyboard, driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
