Job description

Position Summary:
The Log Crane Operator in the Chip mill Department is responsible for safely and efficiently operating a log crane to move, sort, and feed lumber into the chip mill processing system. This role is critical to maintaining a steady flow of raw materials and ensuring optimal production performance. The ideal candidate is safety-driven, attentive, and experienced in operating heavy equipment in an industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate log crane to load, unload, and transport logs within the chip mill area
  • Feed lumber into the chipper or processing system to maintain consistent production flow
  • Sort lumber by size, species, or quality as required
  • Conduct pre-operation equipment inspections and routine maintenance checks
  • Monitor equipment performance and report mechanical issues promptly
  • Maintain safe operating practices and adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA regulations
  • Communicate effectively with ground personnel and supervisors to coordinate workflow
  • Keep work area clean and free of hazards

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • Previous experience operating cranes, loaders, or similar heavy equipment
  • Experience in a sawmill or chip mill environment is strongly preferred but not required.
