Beard Modeling information

Is 25 too old to start modeling?

Beard modeling is open to individuals of various ages, and starting at 25 is not too old. Many models begin their careers in their twenties or later, especially in niche markets like beard and grooming modeling, which value unique looks and personality. Building a portfolio and gaining experience can help improve opportunities regardless of age.

Can you be a model with a beard?

Beard modeling is a niche within the fashion and grooming industry that specifically seeks models with facial hair. Having a well-groomed beard can be an asset, and agencies often look for diverse appearances, including bearded individuals, for campaigns related to men's grooming products or fashion. Success depends on grooming, facial features, and the ability to convey the desired image for specific brands or projects.

What is a Beard Modeling job?

A Beard Modeling job involves showcasing facial hair for advertisements, grooming products, fashion campaigns, or social media promotions. Beard models are often hired for their well-groomed and unique beards to represent brands or trends. This job may require posing for photos, appearing in commercials, or attending events. Consistent beard maintenance and personal branding are essential for success in this field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Beard Modeling position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Beard Model, you need well-groomed and healthy facial hair, strong personal grooming habits, and the ability to pose confidently for the camera. Familiarity with grooming products, styling tools, and potentially experience working with photographers or in fashion shoots is beneficial. Excellent communication, professionalism, and adaptability help models build strong relationships with clients and adjust to different creative directions. These skills ensure you present a desirable image, meet brand expectations, and maximize opportunities in this niche segment of modeling.

How to get into beard modeling?

Beard modeling requires having a well-groomed, healthy beard and good skin. Building a portfolio with professional photos, maintaining a consistent grooming routine, and reaching out to modeling agencies or casting calls that focus on facial hair can help you enter the industry.

How much do beard models make?

Beard models typically earn between $50 and $200 per hour, depending on experience, the client, and the project scope. Rates can vary based on whether the work is for photoshoots, commercials, or promotional events, and some models may also receive royalties or product commissions.

What are some of the common challenges faced by Beard Models in the industry?

Beard Models often face challenges such as maintaining consistent beard health and appearance, which requires daily grooming and attention to diet and lifestyle. They may also need to adapt quickly to varying creative directions, environments, and styling requests during shoots. The role can involve long hours under bright lights, frequent use of grooming products, and last-minute changes to schedules or looks. Staying up-to-date on beard trends and building a personal brand can help models stand out and secure repeat jobs in this competitive field.

Job description

Description:

For over 55 years, Douglas J has been a family-owned leader in beauty and wellness education and services, with Institutes and high-end Salons/Spas across Michigan, Tennessee, and Nebraska. We’re driven by purpose—nurturing talent, delivering outstanding guest experiences, and making a positive impact in our communities.

At Douglas J, you’ll find a culture built on creativity, education, care, and inclusion. Whether behind the chair, in the classroom, or supporting our teams, you’ll be part of something bigger—helping others grow while growing your own career in a vibrant, empowering environment.

The Role: Barber Instructor

Are you a licensed Barber who’s mastered your craft and ready to give back? Whether you're ready to teach full-time or looking for a second gig alongside your shop schedule, we’re here to make it work. We're flexible and committed to partnering with you—so you can keep doing what you love behind the chair while helping shape the future of Barbering, or step away to teach full-time. Already licensed to teach? Great. Just getting started? We’ve got you. We’ll provide paid training and support you in earning the hours needed to become a licensed Instructor.

Requirements:

What You'll Do:

Remember what it felt like to learn the craft? The mentors who shaped you? Now it’s your turn to be that for someone else.

  • Lead hands-on training in classic and modern Barbering—fades, beard work, straight-razor shaves, and more
  • Support student learning in both the classroom and on the clinic floor, ensuring barbershop readiness
  • Demonstrate and uphold professional sanitation and safety standards
  • Provide guidance, feedback, and coaching that builds skill and confidence
  • Foster a structured and encouraging learning environment
  • Track attendance, grades, and student progress with attention to detail
  • Collaborate with fellow Educators to create a consistent, high-quality education and customer experience
  • Be adaptable and ready to jump in where needed—every day is different

What We're Looking For:

  • Active State of Michigan Barber License, or willingness to transfer your Barber license & relocate to Michigan
  • At least 2 years of behind-the-chair experience in a professional Barber setting
  • Natural leadership and a passion for mentorship
  • Comfort with holding students accountable while supporting their growth
  • Eager to work in a structured, high-energy learning environment
  • No Instructor license yet? No problem—we’ll help you earn it

Why You'll Love Working with Us:

  • Work with reputable product lines like Reuzel and Aveda, helping students build real-world experience
  • It’s fun. It’s inspiring. And at the end of the day, you’ll leave feeling rewarded—as a role model, a mentor, and a contributor to the next generation of Barbers
  • Paid Time Off to recharge
  • Affordable health insurance options
  • 401(k) with company match to help you retire
  • Service and product discounts
  • Opportunities to grow within a company that’s been elevating the beauty and grooming industry for over 55 years
