Who we are:
At NG Gilbert Construction, is part of the Townsend Companies portfolio, a family of regional utility vegetation management and construction businesses serving investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, and municipal customers across the country. NGG Construction specializes in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical distribution and transmission infrastructure, delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality line construction services to utility partners.
We Offer:
  • Competitive base salary plus performance-based incentives.
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)).
  • Opportunity to grow within the broader Townsend Companies portfolio.
  • Supportive, safety-first company culture.
Business Development Manager - NGG Construction Summary:
NGG Construction is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager (BDM) to drive growth across our line construction service lines. The BDM will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities with utility and EPC (Engineering, Procurement amp; Construction) clients, while strengthening relationships with existing customers. This role requires a strong understanding of utility line construction operations — including distribution and transmission work — combined with a proven track record in sales, account management, or business development within the utility services industry.
Duties/ Responsibilities
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and EPC firms for distribution and transmission line construction work.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers to drive repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Develop and execute a territory/account business development plan aligned with NGG Construction's growth targets.
  • Represent NGG Construction at industry conferences, trade shows, and customer events to build the company's market presence.
  • Partner with operations and estimating teams to develop competitive, accurate proposals and bids for line construction projects.
  • Track and manage the sales pipeline in Salesforce (or equivalent CRM), maintaining accurate and up-to-date opportunity data.
  • Collaborate with leadership to provide market intelligence, competitive insights, and customer feedback to inform strategic decisions.
  • Support contract negotiations and ensure smooth handoff from business development to project execution teams.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and capital spending forecasts affecting utility infrastructure investment.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in line construction — distribution and/or transmission — in a business development, sales, estimating, project management, or operations capacity.
  • Demonstrated understanding of utility construction processes, safety standards, and industry terminology.
  • Proven experience building relationships with utility clients, EPC firms, or similar infrastructure customers.
  • Strong track record of meeting or exceeding sales/growth targets.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce preferred) and Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the assigned territory.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Existing network of relationships with utility decision-makers and EPC contacts.
  • Experience with vegetation management or related utility infrastructure services.
  • Familiarity with bid/proposal development for utility construction contracts.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Frequent walking on uneven terrain and active job sites.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout assigned territories.
  • Ability to respond to emergency restoration events, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

This role is primarily office-based; however, it requires approximately 75% travel.
This job description is not intended to provide an exhaustive list of activities, duties, or responsibilities required for this position. The Townsend Company and its family of companies reserve the right to modify job responsibilities, duties, or schedules as needed to meet business or operational requirements. Accommodation requests will be made as necessary to support individuals with disabilities.
Additionally, this position is subject to pre-employment screening, which may include drug testing and a background check.
