What is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)?

BCBA stands for Board Certified Behavior Analyst. BCBAs are professionals who are certified to assess behavior, design and implement behavior intervention plans, and provide supervision to other behavior analysts or therapists. They primarily work with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities, but their expertise can be applied in various settings such as schools, clinics, and homes. BCBAs use principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) to help clients develop new skills and reduce problematic behaviors. They also collaborate with families, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure effective intervention and support.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)?

To thrive as a BCBA, you need a master's degree in behavior analysis or a related field, BCBA certification, and a strong understanding of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles. Familiarity with data collection software, behavior intervention planning tools, and electronic health record systems is often required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills are essential for collaborating with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure effective intervention, progress monitoring, and positive outcomes for individuals with behavioral needs.

What challenges do Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) face when managing their caseloads, and how can they address them?

BCBAs often manage multiple clients with diverse needs, which can make time management and prioritization challenging. Balancing direct therapy, supervision, data analysis, and report writing requires strong organizational skills. To address these challenges, BCBAs commonly use scheduling tools, delegate tasks to Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and communicate regularly with the care team to ensure quality services. Staying current with best practices and engaging in peer consultation can also help manage workload effectively.

Hey, Behavior Change Champion-This One's for You
Connections (yep, just "Connections" to our friends) is on the hunt for a passionate, data-driven, and school-savvy Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to join our incredible team. We're not your average ABA company-we're collaborative, creative, and serious about supporting students and our staff.
We're contracted with local school districts to provide services directly in the school setting, and we're looking for someone who's as excited about partnering with educators and shaping young minds as we are. This isn't a "case overload and burnout" kind of role-our school-based caseloads are intentionally manageable, so you can focus on quality, not quantity.
What You'll Do:
  • Provide direct support and consultation to students, school staff, and stakeholders in public school settings.
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs), develop behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and support IEP teams with meaningful, measurable goals.
  • Coach school staff on implementation and support strategies.
  • Collaborate with a team that values clinical excellence, creativity, and student-centered support.

What You'll Need:
  • Active BCBA certification (Required)
  • Master's in Behavior Analysis, Education, Psychology, or related field
  • Experience working in school-based settings (Bonus points!)
  • Ability to navigate schools with empathy, professionalism, and humor

What You'll Get:
  • Paid drive time and mileage (because your time and tank matter)
  • Up to 3 weeks of PTO in your first year-yes, you read that right
  • Manageable caseloads designed to prevent burnout
  • Flexible scheduling and autonomy within your schools
  • Supportive leadership and peer BCBA mentorship
  • Clinical growth opportunities and CEU support

Why Connections?
We're a mission-driven ABA company focused on providing high-quality, ethical services to individuals and schools throughout the Seattle area. We believe in:
  • Empowering our staff to work smarter, not harder
  • Keeping caseloads sustainable so you can actually enjoy your work
  • Investing in people, not just programs

If you're looking for a place where your expertise is valued, your schedule is respected, and your work actually helps kids thrive in school, let's talk

Our employees enjoy consistent Monday through Friday schedules with full-time daytime hours as well as options for working with in-home clients and social groups in the evenings. Our extensive initial training for RBT's (100+ hours), in-house practicum curriculum for BCBA/BCaBA students, ongoing support for new BCBA's, ACE (CEU) events, and opportunities for professional growth and development make Connections a supportive environment with a focus on high quality services for our clients and professional support for our clinicians.
Each Connections team member has access to high quality training, regular support and mentorship, as well as opportunities for professional growth and development.
