What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a BCBA working 25 billable hours per week?

To excel as a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) with a 25 billable hour caseload, you need a graduate degree in behavior analysis or a related field, BCBA certification, and strong knowledge of ABA principles. Familiarity with data collection software, electronic health records, and practice management systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, time management, and problem-solving skills help you effectively collaborate with clients, families, and multidisciplinary teams while balancing a manageable caseload. What are the typical challenges of maintaining 25 billable hours per week as a BCBA, and how can they be managed?

Maintaining 25 billable hours per week as a BCBA can be challenging due to factors such as client cancellations, administrative responsibilities, and travel time between sessions. To manage this, BCBAs often need to carefully schedule clients, promptly address cancellations by filling slots with waitlisted clients, and efficiently handle documentation outside of billable sessions. Many organizations support BCBAs with scheduling tools and administrative support, but proactive communication and flexibility are key to consistently meeting billable hour targets.

This workload often involves seeing several clients each week, collaborating with Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and communicating with families or caregivers. Managing 25 billable hours usually means a full-time schedule when factoring in preparation, documentation, and travel.
