Controls Engineer is capable of leading the electrical and/or controls design and programming of a large, custom automated assembly machine project from concept to acceptance. Has decision-making responsibility for issues related concept, design, programming, debug and qualification of the machine. Responsible for reviewing the concept, budget, and schedule to determine feasibility, then stays within the project milestone requirements. Must be able to travel over 20%.


Responsibilities:

  • PLC programming of custom build machinery and systems.
  • Support software validation requirements.
  • Support IQ/OQ and DQ protocols as well as support efforts to GMP / GAMP requirements.
  • Commissioning, debugging and software modifications in house and at customer sites.
  • Additional support to create and update Technical Specifications.
  • Program control systems for cam, servo, and air operated stations, along with test and electrical devices. Proficiency with Siemens and Rockwell PLCs, HMIs and Servo Control.
  • Programming of HMI interfaces and User surfaces.
  • Clarification of technical details with customers.
  • Capable of understanding and as necessary update electrical wiring schematics.
  • Participate in internal and customer design reviews, installations, and service calls when needed.
  • Provide necessary documentation and support for machinery Operating Manuals.
  • If required, provide production support on machines and production lines at customer site.
  • Provide Training to Operators and Maintenance personnel.
  • If required, temporary takeover of the role as a Main Responsible for Controls Engineering within the Project and on behalf of the Project Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:


  • An engineering degree, specializing in electronics, electrical or controls technology or equivalent 3-5 years experience in custom design per application systems, in automation, control system design, PLC and HMI programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens).
  • Ideally, experience with Databases (SQL)
  • Ideally, experience with C++ and LabVIEW
  • Knowledgeable of electrical and controls engineering theories and principles.
  • Significant electrical aptitude and knowledge of acceptable practices, techniques, and codes.
  • Ideally, VFD / Servo, Camera system experience.
  • Good knowledge of ISO / OSHA / cGMP requirements and current industry practices.
  • Ability to work independently or together in a team environment, responsible and loyal
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Travel or extend workday when required
