How much do baylor phlebotomy jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 11, 2026, the average hourly pay for baylor phlebotomy in the United States is $20.22, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.31 and $22.84 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is the highest paying phlebotomy job?

The highest paying phlebotomy jobs typically involve roles in specialized settings such as hospital laboratories, diagnostic labs, or mobile blood collection services, often requiring advanced certifications or experience. Supervisory or managerial positions in phlebotomy can also command higher salaries, especially with additional healthcare or administrative skills.

What are Baylor Phlebotomists?

Baylor Phlebotomists are healthcare professionals who specialize in drawing blood from patients for medical tests, transfusions, donations, or research, typically working at Baylor healthcare facilities. They are trained to collect blood samples safely and efficiently, ensuring patient comfort and following strict safety protocols. Baylor Phlebotomists also handle specimen labeling, data entry, and may assist with other laboratory tasks. Their role is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment, as well as supporting the broader medical team.

What is the difference between Baylor Phlebotomy vs Medical Assistant?

AspectBaylor PhlebotomyMedical Assistant
CertificationsPhlebotomy certification often requiredCPR and basic medical certifications often required
Work EnvironmentClinics, hospitals, labs primarily drawing bloodClinics, doctor’s offices, hospitals performing clinical and administrative tasks
Job DutiesDrawing blood, specimen collectionPatient care, taking vital signs, administrative duties

While both roles work in healthcare settings, Baylor Phlebotomy focuses on blood collection and specimen handling, requiring specific phlebotomy certification. Medical Assistants have broader responsibilities, including patient care and administrative tasks, often requiring different certifications. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path in healthcare.

What does a typical day look like for a Baylor Phlebotomist, and how does the Baylor schedule affect work-life balance?

A typical day for a Baylor Phlebotomist involves collecting blood samples, verifying patient information, preparing specimens for laboratory analysis, and maintaining accurate records. The Baylor schedule, often consisting of longer shifts over fewer days (such as 12-hour shifts on weekends), allows for extended periods off during the week, which many find beneficial for work-life balance. However, the condensed schedule can be physically demanding, especially during busy periods. Teamwork is essential, as phlebotomists frequently coordinate with nurses, lab technicians, and other healthcare staff to ensure efficient and safe patient care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Baylor Phlebotomist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Baylor Phlebotomist, you need a thorough understanding of blood collection techniques, safety protocols, and typically a phlebotomy certification or completion of an accredited training program. Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS), specimen labeling tools, and medical equipment like vacutainers is essential. Strong attention to detail, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are standout soft skills in this role. These skills ensure accurate specimen collection, patient comfort, and reliable laboratory results, which are vital for effective patient care.

Will phlebotomy be replaced by AI?

Phlebotomy as a healthcare profession involves manual blood collection, which requires human skills such as patient interaction and proper technique. While AI and automation can assist with tasks like sample processing and data management, they are unlikely to fully replace phlebotomists, as the role relies on human judgment and patient care. Certification and hands-on training remain essential for phlebotomy jobs.

How much does a beginner phlebotomist make in Texas?

A beginner phlebotomist in Texas typically earns around $12 to $15 per hour, depending on the healthcare facility and location. Entry-level positions often require certification and basic skills in blood collection and patient interaction.

Is phlebotomist a dead-end job?

A phlebotomist is a healthcare professional trained to draw blood for tests, transfusions, or donations. The role offers opportunities for advancement into supervisory, training, or specialized positions, and gaining experience can lead to broader healthcare careers. Certification and ongoing education can enhance career growth in this field.
